You thinking a pistol or long gun?
Google CA gun laws it will have all the details.
If you're go to any gun shop outside SF (there are non in SF, that I know of) and buy one you have to fill out the paperwork, pass a background check, wait 10 days, You can only buy CA approved guns, there's a list but whatever is in stock will be ok.
If you want a carry permit.. here I'll do it for you... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHA not going to happen outside law enforcement, special politicians, court officers.
My best advice is to work in SF and live outside the city... the farther the better. You can get a carry permit in SOME CA areas but google CA carry permit approval by county to see where you might have a change.
BTW--- DON'T DO IT. It sucks to be a rational person in the bay area.
