If it was an accident or you truly forgot about it, then I don't see how that could come back to haunt you. As long as you don't mag dump a full load of those babies into your target, it doesn't create a pattern.

Nine hollow point rounds fired with one incendiary doesn't (to me) suggest premeditation or intent to cause extra bodily harm or pain and suffering not already caused by a more conventional round. One could more easily argue this in court.

Incendiary rounds don't burn like you're thinking. They're more "spotter" rounds that flash when they hit anything really hard or solid.

Tracers will burn, though and it depends on how much tracer compound is in the bullet.

Uh...not really. All of the cases of machine guns for self defense have been reeeeaaaally costly to the defendant. NFA weapons are almost strictly banned from being used in self defense, but there have been successful cases. the people have had to prove that the cirumstances were so extenuating that a regular firearm would not have been sufficient.

In most states as long as the cops responding rule it a justifiable homicide it'll never see a judge.

Either way I look at it the same as hollowpoints, they're just a round that maximizes the lethality. If self defense statutes cared about HOW badly you killed someone instead of the circumstances it might matter, but they dont. Dont listen to these faggots claiming "purposeful premedidtation to kill" the same can be said of carrying any weapon at all, and assuming you're justified in using it in the first place you should be completely golden.

I don't think anyone has perpetuated that as a myth in this thread, only as a plausible possibility. I say plausible solely because of the current misplaced hysteria surrounding firearms going on in the US.

there is no line of "using this gun is legal but now it isn't".

the legal test is: are you immediately in fear of your life? yes? then you are good to go. breaking and entering in nearly all parts of the country into a private residence immediately precludes (via affirmative defense) any reasonable doubt. the prosecution has to prove there was malicious intent somehow, the defense doesn't have to prove anything.

i've used a DD in self defense and other than having it in police lock up for a month, i got it back just fine and never spent more than a few hours in jail.

i don't sadly. the incident occurred in 1990 or 91 out of mountain home idaho, south of boise. i was sued in civil court, but it was thrown out. back in 06 idaho got fed up with criminals suing home owners or carriers who have lawfully defended themselves and passed a bill that gave civil immunity to all justified shooters.

i never saw the report. i do know the distance though. i fired it from my garage out the side door through a support post (6x6" pine) through the guy, through my front bay window, through a brick wall (south facing). the bullet (APIT i think, i don't remember) travelled 600 meters southward over two fields, through 9 trees, deflected by a still water pond and striking (and ending in) a gravel pit. total distance was 700ish meters. i remember that since the cop said i might be liable for any damages beyond the target.

i use a little 2" snub .500 S&W now.

i sold the Barrett around 97 or so for something like $75,000 since apparently it was one of a handful of prototypes (mine was some kind of demonstration model that was kicked around from gun show to industry show to being toured and tested by like 10 different bases around the country. sold the 20mm upper along with it. complicated thing and real accurate, but incredibly rear heavy. no regrets really, but very fun while it was around.
