>>37549434While the imaginitive world is important, I don't think any singular thing about pony is what set it off. it was a perfect recipe.
A recipe which isn't being repeated in any way at all with G5, and I think that's the primary issue here. There is nothing to tie this to what we've all come to know as pony other than they have hooves.
There is just too much change too fast . Things that go all the way back to G1 have been tossed aside in favor of the new. Whatever you found in pony that you liked, chances are good it's no longer here, because they changed EVERYTHING.
>3d>modern metropolitan setting (say what you will about g4's use of this, it wasn't focus, it was an excursion)>loss of bright and cheery coloring, taking on a less pastel and more saturated look (this is a big chunk of why the G4 movie suffered so badly, fwiw)It's not that they changed. Any one of these things they probably could have done and gotten away with it more or less. It's that they literally threw out the recipe book and began anew. It's no wonder so many are so estranged from pony at the moment.
inb4 old good new bad - at some point you have to be able to recognize your franchise, and this requires some level of legacy to be left over. you can change, just not this fast. They made an effort at this legacy by including the M6, but it just ends up looking in stark contrast to what we have here, and it almost looks like a misfit. It literally highlights how little it has to do with old pony.
