>>37542147>>37569327Just watched it and can agree with a lot of comments already made.
Art was pretty good, enjoyed the voices
Izzy a CUTE, Zipp surprisingly my second favorite despite the danger signs of the dyke hair
Story was pretty bland. Despite being a film and going to more locations than FIM e01+2 the world felt "smaller" and no location had the charm or fleshing out of Ponyville, despite being more than twice the length of the G4 pilots.
So it was a good looking if lacking movie with some cringe moments like rapping but oh well
The one thing I haven't seen anyone mention yet but the bingo sheet reminds me, is retconning of G4.
This film insists this Equestria is the same as the one from G4 but the very plot of the film doesn't work with the rules established in G4.
I'm not talking about the day/night cycle or weather or stuff like that as it can all be explained away.
I'm talking about the base explanation of magic itself.
In G4 it was established that all three pony tribes have their own magic, talents etc, and that the magic of friendship, love and other stuff are separate branches of magic.
We saw that before Equestrias founding the tribes were mistrustful but still had their magic but the Windigos fed off of the hate.
But the G5 movie tries to retcon that and say without friendship the races lose their magic.
It was the only terrible thing that kind of broke the movie for me, I spent the whole second half hoping there'd be a better/deeper reason besides the crystals or friendship problems.
It didn't have to be a sinister villain or anything, just something that didn't fundamentally break the rules of the world
Oh well, probably a nitpicky point blown out of proportion but I think it shows they just wanted to superficially tie it into G4 without actually caring how.
I don't know
I'll still give the show a chance, see how I feel but I hope they put more effort into matching the lore if they really want to push that this world is the same as the last one
