Formulaic yes, paper thin no. Winter Wrap Up has great scenes FOR EACH CHARACTER WITHOUT HAVING TO WASTE 21 MINUTES ON JUST A SINGULAR CHARACTER.
THAT WAS THE WHOLE FUCKING POINT OF HAVING 6 MAIN CHARACTERS.
And the thing is there's other shows who do it, like Rescue Rangers, but it's often 4 or 5 characters, sometimes even 7.
