How the fuck will a gem-finding spell help you in a fight? It won't. Rarity has enough TK control to have multiple embroidery/sewing needles in the air at once,
and even she didn't have the dexterity to stop her sister from bonking her horn and taking her bag.
Rarity is an above-average unicorn and an element bearer who's won fights before. With her hooves, mostly, when it came down to actual fighting; she doesn't even have the magic laser beam like Twilight, and all that seems to do is knock you on your ass anyway.
So a regular canterlot geezer is going to run out of tricks and be stuck in melee even quicker. Against a bunch of ponies who do *nothing* all day but working with their mouths and legs.
