Link to the past and Ocarina of Time practically defined the genre.
They are games of decent length that introduce and use lots of mechanics which take advantage of both the hardware and software available at the time to deliver fantastic gameplay and story from start to finish.
They're Good™ action adventures in the same way that Doom is a good FPS.

Never played the zelda games? You should.
I like to think he's the Hero of Tme finding his way to equestria and living a happy life with his horse waifu rather than the game-canon of him dying unceremoniously in the woods.
What's great is that Majora's mask established both that he can turn into other creatures relatively easily and that the woods contain portals to other worlds.
My boy deserved a happy ending after the shit he went through so goddamn it he's living in equestria, raiding the diamond dog mines as a day job, boning epona every night and nothing anyone says will change that for me.
His skill set involves adventuring, saving princesses, ceramic deconstruction and flute playing.
