I think it's a matter of perspective, while the fandom's size has undoubtedly shrunken I think the passion and fervor for pony still around speaks volumes about both the show and the fandom itself. Speaking personally when I had popped in a while ago on a whim I was pleasantly surprised just seeing how much love was still around for the show, and how many fanworks were still being made. It was inspiring and motivated me to want to contribute in my own way and help keep the spirit alive. If the fandom actually looked as dead as people said then I would have sadly moved on simply clinging on to old memories of what once was, instead of making things with other pony lovers and having fun.
