Of course, the metro Phoenix area is the only part of Arizona where liberals aren't shot on sight, so I can't speak for how easy they are to find outside of Phoenix. Tempe especially is going to have a bunch of kids fresh out of high school, going to ASU, looking for ways to embrace their inner nerd -- it's either pone or animu.
that said, even if you go to meetups, don't structure your entire social life around your fandom if you can help it. Look for ways to round that shit out. You're young, you might be able to avoid the fate of the neckbeard.
