I'm not saying like the start of season 3 (though it was implied by the 2nd episode), but something along the lines of a two-parter where we could flesh out a few things instead of just saying.
Let them buy it.
There will be a backlash from it, though I don't think it will be that bad. People will continue to watch the show and see how the outcome comes from it. Maybe we'll learn more about Celestia, Luna, and Candance. Some more backstory to them to flesh them out more. Maybe we'll have some type of powerful beast that only the alicorns can defeat (as well as the Mane 6). There is a lot of possiblity.
....or maybe I'm wrong with the backlash and they'll retcon the fuck out of it. We'll see in September.
