I would not be surprised if their "background characters" are new creations for the episode or ones that are not the regular ones but popular with fans, like Octavia/DJ pony etc
I'd like to see it deal with the ones that actually show up in ponyville all the time, Like Loiro, the Flower Ponies, Cherry Pony the walking disaster magnet, etc
Basically all the ones that have the little constant gags in the background instead of hte ones that are simply popular
