However, jumping the shark isn't a bad thing. It just means the original premise had gone as far as it could, and the creators decided to stretch out and have some fun. Happy Days would not be the iconic series it is if it hadn't jumped the shark (moving from realist, middle-class teen drama to the surrealist adventures of the Fonz and Co).
Change, even radical and nonsensical change, can be good. S3 dragged because it was trying to fuck life back into a dead premise. It was 13 episodes worth of necrophilia (Trixie's return, Discord's reform, the mess that was SAYS, etc).
S4 recovered because they said, "fuck this, let's just make some shit happen and see where we end up."
