>>30825042I don't want a herd either, and while I think Lero just going along with it is lame, you have to understand that a mare's perspective doesn't exist in a vacuum.
It was pretty well explained why RD wasn't entirely enthusiastic about the idea of monogamy. Basically for mares who don't get any, or very little, a stallion with a single mare is like dangling food over a starving Ethiopian kid's head. So she didn't say, or think, good things about monogamists. But now, after having said or thought those things for most of her life, she was in a possible position of becoming one. No one wants to be a huge hypocrite.
Second, while many mares would gladly keep you from strangers they don't care about, it's often friends who are interested in you both that will make them hesitant. Especially if it's a mutual friend; you all like each other so the friend will likely ask what the big deal is. They've all been conditioned to think sharing is caring, and that it's normal and healthy. They grew up in and around herds, the idea that sharing is undesirable is through the lens of someone already monogamous. Be prepared to lose friends over this and get reeee'd at. While it's easy to say you weren't true friends, I'm sure you'd lose friends if you became a Mormon polygamist on Earth too.
Now, having said all that, I do doubt many wouldn't eventually concede. This is more disputing the idea that they'd be 100% cool with it, no questions asked. There's just a lot of guilt, a not-so-positive cultural label, and potential friendship drama hanging over their heads. It's something you'd have to push or argue for a good chunk of mares. Easily won with time though.
