Not the same guy but if you're up for a two panel thing what about something like the calvin and hobbes crazy imagination comics where we see Big Mac as Atlas, lifting up the entire planet on his back. I didn't actually have an ideas in mind.
But I had this one idea a while back where the bigstallion in question is walking through a city and he sees a burning building. In an attempt to assist the situation, he stomps the building to dust, putting out the fire but destroying it beyond repair at the same time. Then he walks away feeling all happy that he did the world a favor. I don't know if you'd go for that (seems like it's not very gentle... and not something that could happen in one picture), but it's the only thing I have on mind right now. I'm pretty tired, too, and I didn't think you'd actually go for drawing stallions. Thought that was on your "will not do" list, so I didn't actually expect you to answer me. Sorry.

Not quite. As seen here, the amount of heat produced per foot is actually higher the larger Ultramare is. At a certain point it even starts to raise radically.

This chart shows she can stay stable and controlled easily up until around the 80 foot range without her suit. It was mentioned she only REALLY spikes her temperature if she loses control of her emotions (like during her breakdown).

Sadly I wouldn't know, my ears are real sensitive and I can't sleep without near absolute silence so I'm unable to test those kind of methods. But if you wanna try experimenting, go for it. I would advise you to try after experiencing a couple lucid dreams without them first (two or three maybe?).

Seeing a pony in your dream is a good sign that you're progressing though. If you can, try "focusing" your dreams on the pones, it does help.

According to Kleiber's Law, a creature 100 times the size of another, will have a metabolism 31 times greater. I honestly made the chart non-descriptive, just gives a general idea. Not sure how uncomfortable it would be to snuggle a 300ft Ultramare outside her suit.

Don't worry anon, it sometimes takes a while before any significant progress is made. I think, during my first month of attempts, I only had three partial lucid dreams, one of which was an accident. You gotta be patient, the big ponies are waiting but these things can take time. Have you been practicing reality checks? Also how do you sleep?

The trick to setting things up is to do it gradually. Don't info dump. You can get all the information in in a manner that comes off more as entertainment than informing the reader.

Basically, I'm trying to explain a trick I use. That is, if you have a lot of information to explain work it in over the course of actions as the story starts. This can also help with describing appearances.

Usually in the past, people were really strict with having people avoid unnecessary names. I've seen some people keeping names when they aren't actively contributing at that moment or it was necessary for recently produced content. I've taken note each time but never was bothered enough to call someone out or make a stink about it though. Don't know if there's been a bit of a opinion change over the last few months or just anyone that would have pointed it out is just like me and isn't bothered enough to care. Remember that giving the reader a minor break and allowing them to recover from the action makes it all the more sweeter when you throw them back in.

It's the same thing when you're building up to a climax of a story. By itself it's good but a good little run up makes it even better. A decent example that recently popped up (and some anons even commented that the author might have even taken too much time in the rising tension) was this flutterbat story. You can see that he gives the reader plenty of time building up the scenario before the actual swallow.

Another example is the orchid story where it sort of teases the audience with tense situations but doesn't actually push them over the edge possibly yet, we don't know exactly where the orchid anon is going to go with her and if there will be a scene in the future that cashes in on the tension being built up

Then again, I'm not much of an author myself so take what I say with a grain of salt.

But also remember to play on the senses, describe the situation just enough that it gives the reader an idea of what's going on, but not enough to completely take away the aspect of their imagination.

What does it feel like? Taste like? Smell like? All of the senses work well in building tension as the previous Anon made note of.

It isn't the destination, it's the journey. If the build up isn't great, the payoff will be terrible.

Also, asses are really versatile. I should know, I've written enough gigantic pone ass to fill a small library.

Pretty nice! It was a little tricky keeping track of what was going on sometimes, but the action was pretty great. Hmmmm, you should try keeping away from negative thoughts while you're going to sleep, and generally too. Soothing thoughts are better (I think about pone and christmas) since you'll wanna be as comfy and relaxed as possible. But don't think too heavily, since you don't want your mind to be very active while you're on your way to sleepytown.
Your music shouldn't be a problem if it's quiet enough, and you will want to make sure your light isn't too bright also.
Sleeping on your back is good, and from my experience increases your chances of successful lucid dreams versus sleeping sideways.

I can see where the action might be hard to keep up with. To be honest, this one was a bit of a challenge to write. A straight up brawl between two individuals who share similar names did not make wording easy. Still, much the same as drawing and music, the more I challenge myself the better I get.

I can understand not wanting as much violence, but Ultramare comes off as needing to be very actiony. Though, next two stories will be more laid back.

I'm a bit undecided on which to do, and I might do something else for this thread specifically before I write them. However, I'm gonna put it to a vote.

What would you guys like to see next? Ultramare and family shenanigans or PONE and Orchid playing?

I remember a while ago I think I had a lucid dream. I fell into a lull and bit of a point just before you'd start sweating state of warmth to where I felt like I was sleeping but with my mind still aware.

I wasn't expecting it so I was kind of unsure on what to do but eventually tried conjuring up a Fluttershy.

The whole lucidity of it though felt real unrefined and still real whispy but way more engaging than just a random uncontrolled dream. It was like a diet-lucid dream since I'm guessing there's more to the process then balancing on that "ultra-comfy but not quite asleep" level of relaxation. But I felt that tingly feel Anon, that tingly conflicted emberessed but indulging feeling of attention to be had in size difference. Vague, real vague, and therefore weak, but it was there.

Other than that, I don't have much to say. It was an interesting fight scene, though a few bits were iffy, like how the mech just stood there when the building was tossed at it. It was pretty anticlimactic and wasn't even accompanied by any note that he or the mech were remotely scared. Just too convenient for the main character.

Also, maybe a little more elaboration or attention drawn on how Ultra drew power from the gem for some crazy fight moves rather than increasing in her scale. It's something totally outside the norm for her. Something like "Here's a trick I picked up after I fought ________!" or "You think you can replace me?! Replace this!" or even "I'll show you why there's only one, Ultramarel; ME!"

My first couple attempts were kinda like yours I guess. Actually the first time I met dream Lyra was by accident, but it kinda worked out 'cause I was semi-lucid at the time. She never spoke but she acted friendly enough for us to cuddle briefly. Then a few nights later I managed to achieve lucid status again and "asked" for Lyra, who appeared behind me. Again, she wasn't talking but complied when I asked her if she could get bigger. Everything got blurry around here, but she started growing just as I'd asked. I wanted her to stop around the 50~ feet mark but she ignored me and kept growing herself bigger and bigger until she was crazy huge. Then she stomped me with her hoof and I woke up. That feel, anon.

If you want to bring ponies into your lucid dreams, I think the easiest way is to imagine them behind you, then turn around. This is my go-to method but sometimes other things work or Lyra just appears on her own. As for actually interacting with the dream ponies, it is best to talk and interact with them as much as you can when they first start appearing.

Either way, I'm not surprised to hear the ending was the sloppiest bit. I was kind of forcing it, as I'd gotten aggravated with how difficult the story was becoming to write at that point.

Main thing I have to ask about, however, is how did the characters come off? Was their intent easily understood?

The characters? Didn't seem like the pilot really had hiss reasons to get into a tussle like that. Maybe if he really pushed the idea that she was getting obsolete. Make it personal with specific details like "I saw how you've been hoarding around with that 'fan club' you've got going on. Even during patrols! You used to be the pride and joy for everyone who felt scared of the boogieman and ow you've turned into a pop idol, all lipsynched, no substance. Oh how the mighty have fallen, you self-righteous attention horse." Really drive it home that he thinks she's gotten soft and can't be relied on to defend the city anymore. Give him some legitimate points, that'll make it hurt all the more. and give her that fighty excuse. She's not through, she's not done, she's still just as strong day one as she as is now. Mecha-Ultramare is the one that picked the fight. Which is out of spite. She hates the fact that she's designed after Ultramare, and she's jealous that her pilot is a fan of Ultramare.

The pilot went along with the fight, because of two reasons. He didn't think he could defuse, and he figured that since she wasn't listening to reason he would beat her worth back into her.

None of it was about replacing her. It was about her sticking to her identity. If I failed to communicate that then I really did fail with that story. Which...is extremely disappointing.

Try to vary your words a bit more. Synonyms, especially near the end when Evan contemplates accepting her risky transportation proposal, will help keep it interesting. That's what I was afraid of. Orchid's stomach acid is implied to glow (or at least something in there does, and strongly at that if the description is anything to go by), and that's dangerous stuff as is, but if we take an example from the only kaiju to use any kind of liquid in the movie, the gunk from Otachi, that'd be full on doom goo.

You probably all think I'm crazy now, but I can actually see a working parody of Rocky Horror with our big pones.

Anonymous is a regular guy until Twilight shows up, and take him away to a world of giant ponies. She is secretly doing this as an experiment, assissted by her brother, but she acts as Anonymous' servant ensuring that all he wants is made to pass.

He quickly creates a palace of decadence dedicated to both lewd and cute macro. Things get out of hand the night that he figures out how to create life, and he ends up creating Orchid.

Ultramare takes the place of Brad, and is forced to reluctantly admit to her cuteness that she has always surpressed.

Sequoia is Janet, and she, like Janet, has a sexual awakening.

Orchid is Rocky, and she immediately becomes addicted to chips. Unfortunately, Sequoia has more chips than Anon, and Orchid therefore spends more time with her.

I can't really think of anyone fitting for Columbia and Dr. Scott, sadly.

It all ends with Twilight admitting her experiment has gotten out of hand. She aims to end it by bringing Anon back to Earth, but when he resists she eats him. Orchid tries to defend him, but is sent to another dimension.

Then Ultramare and the others are sent home to live out their lives normally as if the horrible experience never happened.

There. I'm done. You don't have to worry about me posting about this anymore.

I’m really digging all these kaijuponah stories so far, pretty creative and adorbs. I was starting to wonder though whatever happen to the Jaegers. Wasn't the original Orchid story based in a loose Pacific Rim universe? I could be mistaking, but whatever the case it’s interesting to see there haven’t been many stories revolving their presence. Not that they need to be, but it could create captivating encounters.

Yeah, if I recall, Orchid was being used essentially as an invulnerable punching bag for new jaegers.

The only ones that maybe could count is Pringles, the totally-not-Cherno-Alpha joke option and maybe P.O.N.E. since I remember something way back about her not accepting any pilots so she just uses an AI. It's a shame because as much as I like cute goofy giant kaiju ponies, the jaegers are really neat as well.

Depends on interpretation. Orchid seems to have been made shortly after the breech was closed in the movie. Apparently a secret project done by a rogue mad genius (that one scientist who loved kaiju so much in the movie). She is the darling pet of the science division for a while until she grew up a bit and was no longer the cute little pet project of theirs. At that point, she is just used as a jaeger training kaiju because most figure that the breach was closed, but the aliens are capable of making another. In that series, she mentions jaegers a few times, specifically one that was apparently built like Cherno Alpha, presumably to carry on the tradition of the venerable juggernaut after it was destroyed. Alloy drew a picture of Orchid wrestling it. In this story it is heavily implied that the jaegers are still being designed and/or improved, though Orchid is likely the only kaiju around.

Ultramare takes place some time after that, where some other monsters, one that looks like a lizard/godzilla sort of thing when she was learning to read, was shown. This implies that the breach was re-opened, or a new one was created, providing a fresh reason for jaegers. However, it sounds like Ultra was designed after Orchid went rogue and left the Pan-Pacific Defense Corps to live her own life. P.O.N.E. was made before Ultra as a more immediate, mecha jaeger-like response, but it didn't work out to everyone's satisfaction so they turned back to bio-engineering, creating Ultramare.

With the new breach or whatever causing more kaiju and other monsters, the jaegers are largely unmentioned, but you could assume that they were scrapped if it was a long enough time after the first breach to the second since jaegers are repeatedly mentioned as being extremely costly to maintain and only as good as their pilots. Governments just don't want to have to fund that if there's no new breach. Therefore, teh turns more towards genetic fuckery like with Orchid, leading to Ultra.

Furthermore, Orchid was the first to arrive at said city, and everyone assumed she was a monster attacking them. Which is what spurred the creation of PONE and Ultramare in the first place.

However, Ultramare's first battle, did not go well. It's the only time she ever fought Orchid. Though Orchid assumed it was a game.

The astronomical causalities from the battle scared the government into hiring a UN agency to build and direct Mecha-Ultramare. Ironically, Mecha-Ultramare's pilot is a huge fan of Ultramare.

True..true. I guess I never treated the Ultramare universe the same as the loose Pacific Rim one. Still it seems the kaijupone integrated its way well into Ultra’s world, which is totally fine. At the same time it’s like you said, it really is relative. Still not sure what universe the original anon, who designed her, wanted to be part of, but in my opinion she defiantly seems like the character that could be part of both or any for that matter without it being an issue. I guess but I would hesitate to say that with such certainty since all orchid anon really said so far about her origins was http://archive.heinessen.com/mlp/thread/S18743132#p18765058
What I got from that was that she came the same place that the Jaeger project was from, which was an extension of the military. I don't think he's really said one way or another about the whole company/insurance thing yet. I mean it'd be cool to tie them together like that but I don't think it's really fair to take away the original anon's ability to make her backstory before he's even written it. Or posted it because it's probably all written just sitting on his harddrive gathering dust.

Personally I've been keeping khorme/UMW's orchid very seperate from Orchid Anon's original version. Like I think it's a cool tie in to use her character in ultramare, but there are also a lot of assumption being made about her and the world she exists in. Until orchid anon pops up again and fills more in, the real orchid is still just a lonely kaiju that's making her first friend.

I haven't been able to get a scenario like that out of my head for a few days now. If I were actually confident in my abilities beyond snippets like this I might've even been able to make something out of it (though much later so as to not detract from the current humanized alicarrier anon).

Not so sure about the total just absorbing through the skin. Think it'd be a bit more dramatic if she just started chomping down on the car. Kaiju, not so sure about, obviously the character doesn't think she's one, but the main character certainly thinks she's one. That's what makes me raise an eyebrow. Bigpone is what we here on MMP but the characters don't seem to be kaiju. Have you thought about just making it a separate thing? There's been industrial and machine/device ponies before in these threads.

As for absorbing through her skin? I didn't want her to eat it. The original concept was that she fused with machinery, but over time absorbed. Though she could, and still can, bring it back out in any form she wants for use. I decided to cut out the middle man.

She kind of is a giant monster pony, though. She's not machine pony. At least not entirely. Her power is assimilation of matter, as represented by the blackhole in her cutie mark. With inorganic matter she can simply absorb it. Organic matter is trickier, though...

As for whether she can be classified strictly as kaiju or not...I'm not sure to be honest. She certainly doesn't much like them with the exception of how her metallic parts have been arranged, and she's not from the other side of the rift.

Not sure what to call her now. Meh...Guess she's just a big pone with monstrous powers.

But I guess I'll take it you didn't enjoy her, then?

I have no problem with the OCs we've been seeing. The content flow from themhas been great and a nice change of pace

But

I don't mean to say this as we should stop producing canon content. I have some choice canon characters I would love seeing in a macro/micro setting.

I'd hate for people to dislike content solely because it's OC. I think that with the content we've been getting, it's been some pretty good stuff. However, I do admit that it has been a bit heavy on the content that we've been saying. This goes without saying, just because we have a large amount of OC content doesn't mean that anyone should not feel free to post canon content in the mix. Even if you can't write or draw, link us a fic you like or a pic you have. Just because you're here for the ride doesnt mean you don't have a say in what content people get to see.

I think probably some of the stuff we've seen out of the last 3 months or so has been some of my favorite to come out of MMP. But some variety might also be warranted and throwing in some AJ, Squiggles and Twilight to the mix would probably make the OC stuff even better since it means that now it'll take much longer for things to get stale.

I understand. I don't want to burn everyone out on Sequoia but I do have an ask blog to run so updates will be fairly often but I don't really expect people to talk about her all the time. I'm just happy people like her to begin with!

Speaking of which, thank you everyone who has been giving her support. She just hit 100 followers.

But yes, even I would like to see more canon content back in the threads. I don't want either to stop producing content though, I want a healthy mix of OC and canon content.

This thread also used to have a population of about 12 people and we passed the same 5 or 6 pictures around like a hobo passing cheap crack to his buddies at the overpass. Sometimes in change you gotta accept the good with the bad.

That being said, I am not at all a fan of Kaiju-pony, I don't like marine animals and the entire appeal is lost on me. Sorry. I still love ultramare though

You'll notice the UM stories aren't lewd. There's a reason why I didn't keep writing that series. I kind of changed.

I got nothing against lewd, but I'm kind of a similar opinion to Goat. I don't care much for it anymore, but I still really like big things, especially ponies.

It's kind of our modus operandi anyways.

Maybe I'm wrong but the way I see all of this boiling down to is, go ahead and keep on with the kaiju/OC stuff but lets see some more canon stuff too so it isn't taking up 100% of the thread.

Why limit the scope of monsterhorse when we've got so many other characters to work with. Maybe now is the time for the revival of the Drawfriend Macro Quest or Cinnanon CYOA?

In regards to Orchid in the Ultramare-verse before the thread dies:
She was just meant to be a cameo since I couldn't think of any monsters at the time, but it turned into an important aspect of the story. I'm keeping all information in the Ultramare tumblr pretty vague since I didn't want to mess with Orchid-anon's continuity, all that I've put in so far is the fact that she was born tiny and that an anon feeds her chips.
I'll continue to have her pop up in the background, but she won't be an integral part in the story until the ending , but would be glad to add things for her to do if Orchid-anon has any ideas.
Also in regards to the monsters in the Ultramare-verse, you'll have to figure that out on your own, but Orchid was not created by the Company, it was a matter of bad luck for the city that she found a good food supply of fish there.
