Granted drop outs received much less frontal formal education, but to be honest ALL the information you need is available online or simply for the asking if you know anyone who is an expert in a field and willing to help you. It's also YOUR willingness to learn. Even if you didn't stay in school you still have a plethora of information at your fingertips these days.
I spent most my life asking people questions, learning from lawyers, engineers, etc. I got work from my hands on knowledge. Now I went to college too but to be honest I learned A LOT MORE from working with people in the field - even scratch up. The schooling did provide a
skeleton but if you are really into a field you likely already have most that framework installed from pure interest.
TLDR School only does so much IMO, what we need are more strait hands on training for kids. At a certain point, college could really use a drop of hobby-classes and worthless papers discussing art. Let kids do that in their free time.
