Writefag here. Haven't been in the World War Equestria thread. The story was actually supposed to be less about the fighting and more about the comparisons and contrasts between Celestia and Anon's ideas about leadership.

The bigger idea was, Anon had arrived some time prior to the show's beginning and becomes close friends with Celestia. As he lives through the show's events, though, he becomes increasingly convinced she's going down he wrong path by relying on magic and a handful of ponies to protect Equestria - both putting the land itself at risk should one of them fall and stunting the ability of the average pony to defend themselves.

He leads a coup against Celestia, but rather than imprison, expel our outright kill her he decides to keep her as an adviser as he embarks on a rapid industrial revolution and aggressive expansion to 'toughen up' the ponies. Like I said, most of the story would be less about the actual war and more about their opposing ideas on where Equestria should be lead.

I'm not totally certain if it works as a story, though. That's why I looked for feedback.

That could work pretty well, but I would suggest not focusing on the war aspect. Instead focus on the domestic leader ship. Maybe have Celestia fight/argue with Anon about the kinds of technology he's pushing forward, how he's destroying the environment/landscape for coal, maybe Cloudsdale is a shithole because of all the smoke being pumped out in the air.

I'd also personally have Anon absolutely suck at fighting, instead have him an engineer or something. He didn't lead the coup with his own sword, he convinced ponies to do it themselves with his "miracles of technology." Talia Al Ghul lead the coup that destroyed Gotham, but she never fought, herself. She had Bane for that. Anon's Bane could be a flightless pegasus, who he made a jetpack, for example.

You could still have the war, but through generals, rather than Anon himself. As is, like I said before, it feels like an edgy power fantasy. The idea behind it has some serious potential.

Just my opinions on it.
