Electrolysis only needs electricity and the right equipment and seeing as they have infinite mass energy batteries in FoE and spells that violate thermodynamics then I'd say Hydrogen and Helium wouldn't be that hard to get.

Especially given the Kalemon incident, I made absolutely sure that was what DiLeak was okay with. He knew I was wanting PG to do the final cover, and even told me his intention was that I take that sketch and give it to another artist, tell them to draw the same scene in their style.

Read the prologue (rapidly skimmimg by the end) and stopped.

It was terrible. Run-on sentences, little to no punctuation (and most of what was there was wrong), no scene breaks despite years passing, complete lack of characterisation, nonsense plot, unlikeable main character...

Okay we start off with... Adam bucking open a rusted shack. Yes, Adam. A pony. Named Adam. I might as well end the review right here but fuck that, I love having my brain melt a little bit seeing babby's first fanfic. Then Neo asks why the place smells like rotting corpses. MAYBE ITS BECAUSE THERE ARE ROTTING CORPSES IN THERE? I DONT KNOW, I THINK I MIGHT BE CRAZY. Then they complain they're hungry after the smell of death, and move in and find a corpse, surprising no one but the main fucking character, who apparently hasnt seen a dead body before, and is wielding a combat shotgun. DIS GONNA B A GUD FIC AYY?

As i skip through this shitty dialogue I reach a part about how they should just put their guns down, and continue to skip through this useless dialogue about their scavenging, their entire fucking process of writing lacks any fucking emotion and its just so boring... So we slowly... Move on... Through them complaining about being hungry, and OH NO I SMELL SMOKE MUST BE THAT TOWN RIGHT OVER THE HILL.

They go to the top and see the town is all burned down, and then we cut out suddenly to a paragraph written in 3rd person to provide FORESHADOWING, which a good author doesn't have to do when they write a story, but this isn't a good author now, I'm reviewing the fucking PROLOGUE because i cant drag my fucking feet through chapter one if all i have to look forward to is this slow ass boring shit and cringe every time the two pones have HUMAN NAMES.

Also, before I give it my final score, please read this

You are Sierra Scorch, a unicorn caravan guard with a wrench mark. You have just woken up from what has been quite a bad day for you.

Firstly, your caravan guard status is looking a bit shaky as the caravan you were guarding has been reduced into pile of ash, along with everything else in a 5-mile radius. Then again, there's no one left to say you didn't do your job properly, so that's a plus.

Secondly, you had to explore a very not nice underground bunker, while quite low on blood, and with an evil ghoul lady who tried to kill you. And then you killed her back, which was maybe evil?

And lastly, you've woken up in a place that you have no knowledge of, tangled yourself in a blanket, and alienated the first person to talk to you.

All in all, not the best day ever. But hey, at least you're alive. Mostly.

As for the here and now, your "travelling companions" are next door, there's some other stuff in the room apparently, and you still have no idea where you are.

Occupational hazards: a furries first forray into major length fics. Plenty of mistakes, none that are on the order of Appletart, though still present. BUT!

It actually is reserved far better than fics in here, with the fetish being fade to black, cheeky reminders of embarrassment, and other such, skip two sentences and you would never know. This is also a decent answer to the how do you include sex in a fic. It is not in your face, no long descriptions, and overall far more on the fic.

Later on it pulls together and has far fewer issues than this would imply, though he does subscribe to the ponies are normally naked and strutting it camp, while in Russia. Dicksickles and pissicles ensue when large gribbly things roar.

My impression is reading it is definitely one of the better choices of fics, but it is entirely self contained save one dead alicorn and feels more metro meets fallout meets MLP, than straight FO:E.

Would put it at 6-7/10. An above average read, most notable for finishing, being internally consistent, and having a non dead civilization view that is well developed, IE people have homes that you can actually live in and rebuilt post war.

Primary plot:
Two stable ponies, one a future stable unicorn with a horn augment, the other a rough and tumble two tailed pegasus with a love for radiation and balefire, hell just explosions in general, are coincidentally kicked out of their stables at the same time for their mutual survival in the wasteland. First "arc" is mostly just wander around and fix things, doing quests and other such busy world developing things. Arc two starts off on a quest to fix an old artillery outpost for the ghoul that runs it, but of course its not just working a spanner. Arc three comes as a consequence of this.

Arc two features some nice twists, the whole thing slotting much more into the MLP FO:E family, and in general is what you expect. Development, set up and meetings of future useful characters and places. Oh and a very entertaining ending that shows either Khat forgot the scale of things, or this guy forgot the name of things. Either way its hilarious when you go back and read other fics with the ending of arc two in mind.

Arc three, well it is a very good arc. Very spoiler heavy and relies upon being an actual surprise, so no tell for you.

A very Russian fic I guess, probably bordering on drinks vodka when not looking. Don't let the fetish stuff put you off, i just put that warning in due to hatred I got when some one, okay several ones, couldn't stop sperging over it being there. Damn prudish Americans and their tightness over sex and liberalism with guns.

Empty Quiver is about the children of Occupational Hazards, made from cloned tissue and one very amorous unicorn, due to certain issues with how to reproduce following the events of the first fic.

Not a spoiler as its spelled out in the first chapter and played for awkwardness later on during a radio interview.

Most of the story shifts from the wonderful tottally not Russia area to a more Washington - Oregon Pacific Northwest area. Does not yet involve Canada, eh, which is good as there may not be much left of the Pacific Northwest after this fic.
Remember the explosion loving pegasus? Well his daughter is worse, fueled by sparkle quantum, and instead of packing a pistol, refuses to put down a grenade launcher in combat and opts for using 40mm lead slugs everywhere she can't put HE. Oh and as with all pegasi, seems to forget she can fly too often. This however seems to be headed torward a plot event given all pegasi involved don't even know how to preen.

Does actually have an overarching plot, but its not made known until chapter 8. Okay it has a true plot at the start, but its one of those Wizard of Oz type ones where you know it will be finished at the end of the plot and is largely pointless to consider an actual plot.

No sex, no fetishes, and much less tryhard focusing on the effects of combat on your bowels. Also is very well integrated into FO:E in comparison to the first one, being post Pippening. Still has a large post apocalyptic society instead of scavving for the can of hay in a cellar to try and live.

Should be noted, both fics suffer from being so removed from the main fic, it really didn't have an effect until Cauterize, at which point it erased a few towns, some landscape, and generally has the scale it should have had in the original of "Oh shit, we are so fucked."

This was very rambly, so please ask some directed questions now. Definitely read Empty Quiver, it is very good. Do read Occupational Hazards over Influx or PH.

You're not sure where these thoughts of a pegasus came from though, as far as you can remember you only found the wheel mark guy. Then again you did pass out a lot, so you could be misremembering.

After the little ghoul incident he managed to pull both you and a pegasus from the cave far enough to the nearest settlement. In the snow no less!

You praise him on his endurance.

He doesn't say anything in return.

Get takes a while for anything really interesting to begin. When it does, it starts to have a unique vibe to it. I couldn't even tell you what the first couple chapters involved.

They're slow. They really only serve to solidify the character and their norms.

After shit goes down, the character shows inklings of growth. I guess its like ouroboros in that it takes a while to build up steam.

It depends on whether or not the intestines are damaged or not (because they usually are)

If she doesn't have any severe arteries or veins compromised and the actual intestines aren't punctured, theoretically, yes, you can, but you're going to need to be careful because usually hanging guts alone can cause fatal shock. So, busy watching glass made at Jamestown. The fuck aren't ponies making glass? Its actually quite easy compared to blacksmithing, needing heat, sand, and very basic metal implaments on the order of sheet and clothes hanger wire.
So, yes making glass is easy in FOE, add some people doing it to your story without guilt.

I have the ratios on camera, but not transfer methods. I'll post later and a pic of tools. Later being tonight. Pure sand glass is poor to impossible if river sand, but much more feasible if sea or brackish sand due to mineral content being there. River sand would be closer to hardened clay peice clumped together sans ingredients, but with wood ash, bone ash, and grass/seaweed ash works fine, same as sea sand.
The hard part is the furnace and kiln. However with heat talismans existing, and hopefully being able to exceed two thousand celsius, it is easier. Failing that, hydrogen talismans for all your fuel needs.

Defenitely a unicorn art unless hooves can manipulate tongs and sissors in all dimensions.

I read up to the part where that one crazy woods guy goes back to his Master dude and tells him about the main char. That part where she teaches the forest teens about love or whatever was a little...cheesy as fuck. But the scenes were she's in space were really well done. But I did open it and look over it for three seconds, and that's all I need to be able to tell you what your problems are.

First of all, smaller paragraphs. Please. Split them up. Don't make gigantic paragraphs, whatever you do.

Secondly, leave a space between your paragraphs, this improves readability. And please don't forget to indent.

Also, what are you using to type? Do you have word 2013? it has a very useful tool in it that I think every writer should check out.

Am I the only one that thought that (MN7 spoilers) both Brutus and Wildcard continuing to fight after they "died" was just a little bit over the top? I didn't expect it at all with Brutus, but Wildcard's was somewhat ridiculous. He did it /twice/ too. Once after getting blown the fuck up by Glimmer's mine, and the second time after getting shot through the damn head. It just seemed cartoonish.
It didn't detract from the chapter much, though, but I found myself rolling my eyes.

I was also completely expecting Brimstone to die in that fight, or die and take Brutus with him. He'll probably die later.

Ah, well with that the entire story pretty much is FoE ASOIAF. The 'starting protagonists' even fade into the background and it focuses on all those new characters, switching between them. He manages to do it pretty well IMO but if you hated ASOIAF's style I can see why you wouldn't like it.

As for the Luna thing It's reveal really quick that it's not Luna, just an imposter rogue alicorn.

I think you might be able to do it with Calibre (a free ebook reader program) as a matter of fact. I know I was able to use it to convert a book from HTML format to an epub.

If you want FO:E though, there's no need to convert, the epub is out there already. Same goes for a number of stories on Fimfic, I think the "download story" option has epub among the options.

Shades of Grey's problem isn't grammar or spelling, its problem is the Author has no idea what he's doing.

The main character is a blatant mary-sue, who runs around criticizing the choices and morals of others.

All the while the author is trying to make us sympathize with this character and respect her struggles but nothing she's done so far makes sense.

She's an asshole all she does is complain about the "murky morality of this new world" and the bitch fucking jokes about how easy it is to break into homes and steal from innocent people.

I mean within the first two chapters she's broken into a town, killed a lawman, shot the lawmans daughter dead, and then proceeds to blow up the whole town and kill god knows how many innocent people.

And this is inline with the author jerking off this idea of

>"Oooh the grey morality of the wasteland, settlements don't care about justice, they just convict everybody to death because it makes them feel good, oooh look how edgy and advent garde I am talking about the morality of justice"

When this fucking character just shot a little girl and blew up a town of innocent people for no goddamn reason.

She wasn't there to help the guy who planted the C4, she was there to sneak in and steal a key, she didn't HAVE to murder the deputy, in fact she didn't even know why the ghoul was in there until AFTER she released him.

The ghoul in the cell could have been a violent rapist and she just lets him out without thinking about it.

And then the author is like "Oh look how racist this settlement is, they locked a ghoul up because he's a ghoul, they're just racist, there is no justice in the world anymore."

Oooh how poignant, to criticize the morality of a lawless world, how edgy.

And its like, go fuck yourself, you just had your protagonist murder like a hundred people for no reason and collaborate with a violent psychopath, don't fucking pretend you're some authority on the grey areas of morality.

Critical information should be within the body of the story at some point, though. Obviously it doesn't need to be all at once (hence the point of avoiding an info dump) but relying on blog posts and reader questions is bad storytelling imo, unless you're telling a story through running an ask blog or something.

"Show, Don't Tell" is always a good rule to follow, though. On the flip side, it's sometimes easy to fall into the other trap of not showing enough for anyone to figure things out. I'd think that's something you'd fix with a few pass-throughs of an editor or something though.

The premise is great, but I absolutely could not stand the writing style or the way the main character spoke. On the one hand, skipping into the plot can leave you missing things, on the other it can get you to where you are actually interested and will tolerate the wall of infotext crushing your mangled corpse as it spews forth in such quantities as to resemble the gravid testicular discharge of Dog into Leaky.

Rather Indiana/Daring Doo adventures in the world pretending to be post-apocalyptic mixed with some amount of dieselpunk elements . Other than that, the plot is... present, storytelling is straight-forward, without so much as annoying side-quests. And the characters are lovely, pony-zebra duet, isn't something uncommon among FoE-fics, but still pretty nice written and developed.

Sorry about that, I read the majority of it like two years ago. I forgot how bad the beginning was. The protag has a bad habit of not realizing she's the poster child for what's wrong with the wasteland. Like a nihilistic thirteen year old that has thrown away the standard metrics of 'good' and 'evil'... without realizing that there is whole lot of difference between someone acting without perfect intentions and someone who is actually a psychopath.

Moral relativism and a sad back story are her excuses. Not an overriding cause.
It isn't that the ends justify the ends in her eyes. It's more like: 'if some people act like shit heads then I have a free pass to use any means to get my desired ends.'

Maybe that is what was going for, an irredeemable character. Regardless of that possibility, it doesn't have a theme that can be obtained easily. If it is a critique of the edge lord straw nihilist then maybe that redeems it. That would be funny considering Duck and Cover did it so much better.

Murk's journey to freedom was barely beginning when Pip made her escape. Even when I was told the ending of PH, I just laughed, knowing that shit like that was gonna come out of it.
But ya know what? The tattoo was never about the up to date chapters of PH.
It was never about the entire story.
The tattoo was about how that story gave me something to cling to in the days when I was ready to off myself. It was something to relate to when BJ or P-21 would try to kill themselves.
It was something that gave me a focus, gave me a reason to wait it out another day.
The tattoo is about how I made it through a time in my life where I wanted next to nothing more than to simply die.

I thought that was the best point of the early story. It's the first point that really showed how deep Protege and Murky's relationship was going to be and how emotional their interactions could get. Murkege best ship.

It was also the first point that firmly established that Protege was more than just a nice slaver and hinted at what he really was.

Murky's plot isn't really about the progression in a game sense of new areas, I always found its progression is measured in character change and its characters develop and change far more than in many stories. That moment was huge for the characters.

Yeah I think that point was really to drive home the parallels between Murky and Protege, both still slaves despite Protege being "free". It was an important thing for Murky to realize, because if he hadn't I don't think he could have realized that he would still be mentally a slave, even if he escaped.

What i like is the characters in general, they feel good written and the interactions between them feel natural too
Story itself may have been used before many times: Violent raider gets in an accident without memories but began helping people and trying to let his past go, he starts hearing a inner voice(his old self). One of the subplots of the story is how the new "he" tries to maintain control of his body while the voice fights for it. He even loss control a couple of times and have to sit there watching how his old self acts with his friends and trying to recover his body
Something about drug uses that in my opinion was wel used for the plot and none of that "Killing is bad even if you kill bad people" nonsense

Altough, that was one of my first stories that i read after the original so maybe i am biased, still, one of the few that i have read more than once
