However, you should never address people with anata. You call all people by their name if you can, profession if you can not. Anata does not even come into consideration.

You might consider it to be one step less-polite.The Japanese people, if you have had the chance to interact with them, you might have noticed that they generally use your name when they want to address you (like Nara-san) instead of "Anata". I have never come accross a Japanese who ever used the word "Anata" to me.
p.s I would not tell you that Japanese people never use "kimi" or "anata" to another person. They might use it in rare occassions. For ex. an older person might use it to you even though you are not very close to them. With elderly people, most things are excused ;)
