The vignette "valley girl" shtick is a little overdone imo, but all the other dialogues and deliveries are just so unbelievably fluid and natural. I'm actually astounded so far and have just been smiling the whole way through.

I hope the conclusion is equally as great.

Jesus, I don't know, the first half was a total solid 10/10, just astounding. Second half and conflic resolution more of a 7/10, it was ok, nothing to complain about greatly.

Average to 8-8.5/10. I actually thoroughly enjoyed this one.

Fuck it was by Confalone? Now I really regret missing it. I assume he continued to btfo season 8. Forgotten Friendship was already better than the whole first half combined. It's a shame that Confalone is our best writer and his talents are wasted on EQG, Maud, and Big Mac/Discord crap. Imagine if he had gotten into his own little pet project of making the mane 6 great again?

Hardly. Confalone is a blessing for EqG because he's making something that should, by all rights and measure, be a total pile of dino crap and is somehow and amazingly making it better, or at the very least watchable.

That's not necessarily an easy task. Kudos to him. He probably enjoys it since he's given much more creative freedom on it than with FiM.

Yeah, Pinkie was actually written exactly like her early season character, where she's intelligent but low-key to the audience. She KNOWS, but she doesn't make it so explicit and just outright cringey. I'm impressed. Confalone isn't usually the best writing for Pinkie, but it seems like he's learned something at the very least.

I agree to the idea that the first half and set up was fucking stellar, but it shit the bed in the last stretch.

Pros:
>Really, REALLY good character interactions between Rainbow/Flutters, Sunset/Twi, and especially Rarijack. Pinkie sadly had no one to play off of but was still enjoyable

I was all hyped to see Rarity and Applejack team up on their own to save their friends through something clever and instead the fates just allow them to find them in a random room with no struggle? Twilight more or less saved herself, AJ's role was sadly minimum.

A true villain fight / Rarijack actually having to work on their own to save the others would have really made things tie in together and might even rival Forgotten Friendship.

As it stands I'd give it a 9/10 for the first 40 minutes and a 5/10 for the last 10. Still really enjoyed the earlier parts of it though and even the anticlimactic finale had some good snippets to it, I really can't wait for screen caps to come out. I need more angry Sunnies.

Well, I've watched it
And ever since after Rainbow Rocks, I've never enjoyed any EqG stuffs minus few music shorts
This was no exception

All characters feel too over the top with their personality that they feel one dimensional, mundane and cringy
Their anatomies and skins are barely human-like that they constantly hop in and out of uncanny valley
It hurts me inside seeing all smart phones and internet meymey references that'll be/are already outdated
I'm getting sick of bullshit "magic out of nowhere" plot progression - "Geodes" necklaces, more like "I wanna be Magical Girl knock off so I gotta force this shit in" necklaces
Only reason I've sat through 60 minute of agony was just for my waifu

I mean, y'all are all entitled to watch whatever you like, but I just personally don't see the appeal in EqG past Rainbow Rocks

The plot was weak in how it was yet another coincidental 'magic just HAPPENS to infect someone close enough to the Mane 7 for it to conveniently create a conflict', but I don't feel anything like what you're saying about their personality traits being pushed over the top, if anything I would say the character interaction was so on point it's what made the special watchable even with such a weak over-all story

Confalone writes every character the best. If anything his two male character episodes were complete wastes while the mane 6 die in the hands of shitty new writers. The first 35-40 minutes were 8-9/10 material easy, it had great character interaction and was setting up the villain / Rarity and AJ nicely for a confrontation...

But that last 10 minutes just really lost all its momentum and tripped, it felt like it dropped to a 5/10. I am thinking a 7/10 is a fair compromise, the characters in the first part were fun as fuck but that last stretch just sort of let down everything that it had leading up to it, despite having some admittedly cool components to it as well.

Oh don't get me wrong, them realizing they were just trapped in a random room WAS hilarious, that was one of those cool components I was talking about, I loved it.

But it also robbed Rarity and Applejack of 'any' big shining moment they could have had to themselves to save the day. I was eager to see AJ and Rarity come up with something clever to free the girls and instead when it came down to it, Twilight more or less saved herself and everyone else, while AJ and Rarity had a very minimal role to serve. Then from there it was a 7 on 1 team fight.

In retrospect, I feel that Vignette was a good villain for the type of villainy that she represented, and in this case, this representation being a projection by the staff as the incompetent or cruel or out of touch middle/upper management.

I honestly felt, towards the end of the special, that Vignette was supposed to be representative of the disdain the staff has for the suits telling them what to do regardless and irrespective of quality creativity, i.e. "do everything by the numbers" types of management.

Now this I can actually thoroughly appreciate because it's so grounded and down to earth without requiring suspension of belief/disbelief while simultaneously not conflicting or interfering into the tone and atmosphere of the setting either like so many preachy, holier-than-thou political crap does in other cartoons and shows and films.

It was definitely really low-stakes for a special, I know what you're referring to. The story wasn't a huge important part to the ongoing narrative of Equestria Girls and it was mostly saved by character interactions due to the finale falling pretty flat.

But I think this just makes it more of a Slice of Life episode than anything else, which is weird having a SoL taken up to 44 minutes long but I think it delivered well on the character bits. It is most probably what you might refer to as filler but it was entertaining filler

no, i just finished it and this is unironically one of the shittiest things i've watched with MLP on it. it's worse than the first eqg, which at least tried to pretend to be series and have some kind of stakes. this one had fucking nothing. literally fucking nothing because no one was even in any fucking danger. it was a complete railroad with no interesting character interaction other than two characters doing some things, nothing actually utilizing the personalities of either for anything non-trivial. i think the biggest offense is that rarity puts business above her friends when she's been the only one in the show to actually be a bit good about that, namely in the manehatten episodes where she always shows concern, even when she's overworked. and the plot device is a fucking phone with "equestrian magic" there to make it do something completely retarded and nonsensical.

Well it depends on how significant pure, solid plot is to you vs. simply slice of life interactions. This one has little plot to drive forward but works the character dynamics spectacularly. It doesn't add much in terms of information and lore, but only diehard lorefags care about that and use it as a significant metric.

Otherwise it's just the pure essence of cute girls doing cute things together.

It's not as good as Forgotten Friendship. FF had a much better overarching plot whereas this one is slow to get going and once it does, it trips near the end. However, they kind of flip flopped in what they did best: FF had a better story while RF had better interaction and dynamics between its mane cast, which is the main selling point of it. The first 35 minutes are delectable in its character interactions. I would say go into it as a sort of more 'Slice of Life' special than one with full stakes. It's not as great but it *is* pretty enjoyable

Unfortunately it is: that's just placeholder music for the music designers to know what the writer/storyboarders have in mind for the scene, they create their own afterwards. Otherwise I imagine they'd run into copyright issues using Yoshi-Story 2 music there
