I think it heavily depends on the individual in question.

I've heard some people who got spankings claim that it kept them in line and helped them be better people overall. These people are also the ones that say that it had no bad psychological effects on them.

I've also heard claims from others that spankings effected them in negative ways or did nothing to improve their behaviour.

Seams that you either have to spank in a very specific way to make it an effective and safe method of discipline or its random based on the individual how effective it'll be.

A lot of the slave thread rees when too much spanking happens. Vega is an exception because he did more bdsm, bondage, and slave stuff alongside just spanking. He expanded his plot to not just be spanking, and has written so much text that people accept it. A basic spanking story doesn't have much place there.

Vega has his roots here and when he found popularity with his slave story he ditched us and never came back to these threads.

I'm not bitter.

With griffons, they might not have that big of a legal justice system so they might get surprised by the spanking instead of being let go/mob justice.

Yaks, who live in a remote snowy area and Hippogriffs who had to hide from the Storm King could be used to physical labour punishments as their previously harsher living conditions made making practical use of criminals more acceptable and preferable.
Dragon parents would be too big to spank their kids and older siblings might not care to do so. Behaviour that would typically be considered unacceptable could also be acceptable in their society.

Each of them could be in for a surprise when their sentenced to a paddling or whipping.

Maybe a quick paddling every Saturday (having an official spanking paddle just for this would be nice).

I could go more lenient on them for verious offences as a result of the mandatory weekly spankings, but if they were to be consistantly naughty enough during the week I could give them a surprise extra hard paddlings on a Sunday night and a few extra whacks the next day before school (for the butt redness).

Of course, if they were to do something extra bad (dangerous, malicious, etc.) a more immediate spanking could always be on the table.

I am of two minds on when to deliver a maintenance spanking in order for the lesson to be most effective for a foal. If foal is good, you might deliver them on a Friday after school. Then they can run off and play and leave that unpleasantness "behind" them, as much as they can try to leave the pain that is literally behind them with every step. Only foal's friends would have to see their red cheeks and know they got spanked.

But if a colt or filly is naughty, and maintenance spankings need to be instituted for the first time, or kicked up a notch, then Monday mornings before school is the logical choice. Show the teacher that you and the foal are serious about addressing the foal's misbehavior and bad attitude. Let everypony watch foal's backside as they find their seat and see foal's reminder to behave. Let all of foal's classmates know exactly why they are squirming in their seat and having trouble paying attention. Let everypony heckle them (within reason -- not far enough to get spanked) as they get called up to the front of the class for a refresher spanking overtop of the naughtiness eraser you left on foal's bottom that morning.
