Its a running theory of mine that anons would rather sit in a thread for hours raging at an obvious shitposter than take a couple seconds to report them and thats why so much of it stays up. Once or twice a month I'll stumble across a dumpster fire, start reporting it, and won't even get all the posts before one of them shows up and deletes the whole argument. And it actually makes sense of the extra attention EqG threads seem to get, if ayyposters as a group are actually bothering to report shitposting in their threads then that forces scruffy to see it right away.
This would be easier to figure out if Twimod still talked to us, but the days of moot chatting in random threads is long gone.
