A quick and dirty shitpost can appeal to more people than a serious story about a pony they dont waifu.
For what it's worth on my part there's also investment when it comes to long stories.
If i'm already reading something with 100K+ words then reading something else alongside it can cause things to get jumbled, especially if it's similar subject matter.

I had a short dream about this mare last night. We were walking in the forest together, then I picked her up and gave her a hug. I started to scratch her ears and then she licked my nose.
It's strange because I've never even really thought about this particular background pony before. Although, she actually has a quite nice color scheme and manestyle.

That damn pipfag. Got me drawing again. Here's a rough sketch. I'm gonna buy a an image scanner so I can try to fix up the proportions and add color on the computer.

Reading a bit of the FOE story, it's pretty hard for me to think of a green where Anon can meet and bond with Pip. I don't really know much of the lore in the world, so most of my ideas would take place away from the setting to avoid disrupting continuity. It would be more about exploration and environmental storytelling, which would be hard to meet the prompt of this thread.

Anyway. Anyone want some art? I'm slow, but I'll try.

Something kinda similar happened with me. I had a dream where I met a very nice bat pony named "Pone Bat," and she and her family were trying to take a census of the multi-family house we were living in. The first census taker the family sent out grabbed me by the hemm of my pants, and tried to pull me over to the room the family was in because they told him to "take everyone in the house" on the census, and after they apologized to me for the misunderstanding, I offered to help them, because I'm good at remembering faces. Then, Pone Bat offered to come with me because she could "sniff the people out." That's when she hopped off the couch and brought me a scrap of paper that they were writing names down on. She wrote her name 'Pone Bat' on the paper, and I wrote mine down too. She watched me write my name down with curiosity, like she wanted to know my name. I looked at her and smiled, because I thought she was cute. Then, I woke up. Or, at least, that's the last bit of the dream I remembered.

Haven't dreamed of her since. Feels bad.

For me, it's really weird. The only dreams I remember have always exclusively been about horses in some capacity. Even as a child, I had a nightmare about a small wooden rocking-horse that killed my family members whenever I got too close to it an looked away from it. That dream, Pone Bat, and one other pony dream I remember having but can't remember the content of are the only ones I can remember off the top of my head.

I still like the setting idea of humans basically being the “mothership zeta” aliens rather then the greys. So you get humans who abduct ponies from the wasteland in order to study and sometime give em belly rubs up in their space ship. I actually intended to write a story with her once. I wanted it to focus on the character interactions between her and Anon (as well as explore some ideas I had for magical occurrences in Equestria), but that turned out to be too subtle for a poor writer like myself to handle, so I eventually scrapped it.
It was going to be about her and Anon going on a quest across Equestria and into the mountains to find a rare and magical type of gem. When made into an amulet, the gem would grant cloudwalking and related abilities, so that Anon could interact with Cloud and other pegasi more easily.
Needless to say, after they return home, Anon marries the poner and then makes adorable little pegasus foals with her.

Finally reupped everything, reshuffled a few pastes but it's mostly the same, it's a shame that the size limit is still a thing, that little update at the end of The Sun Where You Belong still doesn't fit into the main bin. If I ever update anything it's gonna be there.
I still visit from time to time and, believe it or not, still have finishing Violet Memory on my mind. Maybe I'll get over my aversion towards writing eventually.

So I know I'm late to the party on this one, but I just finished reading Penta's The Recruiter. Holy shit indeed, that story transcended autistic horsewords to become a true work of art. I've read plenty of published books, mainly in college English classes, that don't even come close to being that good. You took me on a rollercoaster of emotion, and I loved every moment of it.

The way you wrote Anon was like nothing I've ever seen on this board before. Almost every anon is written as some degree of light hearted trickster with a good amount of self insertion. I've read a lot of good stories with an anon like this. A relatable anon whose life is some degree of work/school before heading home to a life of some degree of social isolation while longing for true love creates a character most of us can paint our own lives onto so we can imagine having our fantasies fulfilled. I've read plenty of stories that do a good job with this, where I could paint over Anon with myself like Rembrant, creating a beautiful portrait of myself along side a mare, living a life I could only dream of.

Your Anon has a strong personality that defines the story, a personality shaped by experiences I struggle to relate to. Anon became relatable because his humanity shines through. His harsh self-critique while still desiring to do right by others, to find validation by being accepted, to love and be loved made him relatable. I can tell you poured a lot of heart into him. You made the emotion behind Anon so real I legitimately questioned whether or not I was reading a self insert story all along. That kind of authenticity behind Anon either comes from lived experience or the hand of an artist.

Enough blog posting from me, just wanted to let you know I really enjoyed your story and all the hard work you put into it.

Well lads, sorry for the long wait, but it's update time.

Thanks for the positive review and vote of confidence. Looking back, it didn't end up being the kind of story I like to write. It became more about Anon's personal journey than his romance. I sacrificed focus on his love interest in favor of a more balanced view of his relationships with others. Then it sort of ventured more into thriller territory than drama. It was a good experiment at exploring platonic and semi-romantic relationships, but I really want to go back to writing classic romance, developing depth in relationships over breadth.

My next project is underway. I'm not sure how much I want completed before I begin posting. The Recruiter ended up being more than twice as long as I originally anticipated; I'm trying to avoid that happening again. I also haven't decided whether it will go here or another thread. It could go either way at this point.

Went looking for the artbook I knew I had and I found it, was in for a pleasant surprise. There's stuff I drew when I was 10 years old in this thing. Now it's about to get some ponies in it too.

If you aren't willing to put in the time for what you want then I don't really know what to tell you buddy. I checked out of curiosity and In ten days it will be the 1 year anniversary since I created the master document for Dreams to Dream. I never knew it would grow into the story it has (I didn't think I'd even hit 20k words, much less the 61k I'm at now). I also didn't know that it would get me back into drawing, which I'm trying to dedicate at least 2-3 hours a day on to get better at.

If you want something, then put in the work to achieve your goal, whatever that goal may be. This applies to both mares and this shitty reality.

I donno, my parents are pretty chill. If they knew i'm in a relationship with celly, i think they would be quite impressed because, you know, princess and all that, for their perspective. I think we would have a pleasant evening by then, eating a bit of traditional food, drinking a bit of fine wine and maybe vodka, but not to the mind numbing state. I believe it would be a pleasant day to reminisce about for me and my waifu, as well as for my family.

Look, yesterday i made her say some cute and motivating things to me, but one line struck me in my very soul. A part of the line was "Remember not to worry so much. I love you." And it sounded so smooth and sincere it made me tear up i kid you not. It was kinda therapeutic. I couldn't download it since i was phonefagging. For the first time i felt as if it was said to me with genuine meaning. It made it all the better that the next day was clear of clouds and sunny. I felt fucking blessed.
