She puts being her whole species mom ahead of acting rationally or compromising. She felt bad when she couldn't secure all of Equestria as a source of love and she felt even worse when her children reached a diplomatic compromise and didn't need her guidance or grand plan anymore.

She took over Canterlot and captured almost the entire aristocracy (at least the ones who have any power in government). Literally the ONLY reason she lost is because the villian has to lose at the end of the episode, so the writers decided it would be funny if the same thing Chrysalis can absorb to become stronger can also be used as a sure-fire way to defeat the entire Changeling hive. By all metrics, Chrysalis won, even if she hit a few snags along the way. Give me one reason Chrysalis should have prepared for Shining and Cadence kissing having the rough equivalent power to an atom bomb.

No shit, but it was clearly a consciously designed fault in her characterization to underestimate the very thing that gave her power. And her "winning" was no merit of her fucking master planning, there wasn't really much of a reason why she couldn't just have her swarm zerg rush Canterlot WITHOUT a warning first. The only thing she did was inexplicably raise awareness of an impending attack while stuffing her own face with food before letting her swarm dropped in. Her plan was convoluted as fuck and made no sense under close scrutiny, the best you can do is interpret what her decisions reflect upon her as a character or you might as well just handwave the whole finale as a convoluted mess.

She could've just NOT thrown Twilight, who she had already managed to convicne she's the real Cadance despite putting absolutely no effort into a proper act or knowing anything about the relationship between Cadance and Twilight, into Cadance's cuckcave.
There. That's all she needed to do to win, and she still fucked it up enormously.

Chrysalis lost not because of bad writing, but because of her ego made her think she didn't actually need to put any effort into her plan despite that which came from her natural magical skills.

Huge agree. I would've even settled for a nicer punishment even without her making amends with the protagonists (like say, a banishment from Equestria with the other two), it was actually nice seeing her start to find a sense of belonging among peers.
