Posted this days ago but my headcanon is the reason snowpones are overwhelmingly pure and wholesome is because to them, any real hostility meant death via windigo.

They evolved to be as pure hearted as possible by evolutionary natural selection.

I prefer to play their purity straight and unironic, but y'know if something has the innocence of a newborn babe, it can literally murder you with a genuine smile and no malevolence at all and simply not understand that what it's doing is wrong or even unusual. Hey, Arctic, or snow crabs, are a thing, you know?
I now want a snowpone who has a pet snow crab.
Maybe the crab is even smart, like how most regular animals seem to be in Equestria, and helps with fishing by herding fish into nets and stuff.

Knitting? August of 2019. Crochet, Feb of 2019. The basic body is from the mlp amigurumi crochet book. Mane and tail are some random shit I made up for her. Hooves were based on Luna, with the color extended an extra row. Lookin' forward to teaching people the basics at cons, like I used to and likely still will do with sewing.

I really like how this ties in to the current Wendigo worship lore. It’s haunting, but it sounds like a song a filly would hear about Wendigoes during a blizzard to reassure them that they aren’t that dangerous if you know what to do, like Zecora’s nightmare night speech.

Many believe that Snowpones are distant relatives of Earth ponies, but in reality they are genetically far more similar to Pegasi. Sharing many traits with them.

The most obvious of these is their tolerance for cold climates. Pegasi are able to fly high up in the atmosphere where temperatures are below freezing, because their blood has an inherent magic to it that drastically lowers its freezing point, effectively turning their blood into antifreeze. Snowponies have an almost similar magic to their blood, but slightly weaker. They make up for this with a thick and rough coat, which wouldn't work for Pegasi as it would be a hindrance in terms of weight and wouldn't be aerodynamic. The leading theory is that a population of Pegasi settling in the far north eventually evolved into the Snowponies that we know today, losing their wings in the process.

Further similarities to Pegasi include the inherent magic that allows them to walk on clouds, which exists in the same form in Snowponies, allowing them to walk on snow. Some snowponies are so adept at this that they can walk on a fresh snow cover without leaving even the slightest trail.

Furthermore, like Pegasi the Snowponies are able to sense magnetic fields, allowing them to, without maps or using landmarks, broadly navigate frozen plains that due to snowfall and blizzards can become unrecognizable in a matter of hours.

It is clear that rather than sharing a common ancestor with Earth ponies, who's talent for working the soil and tending to the flora makes it impossible to settle in the frozen north, Snowponies are actually fluffy wingless Pegasi instead.

The headcannon I've taken on is that they have a intuitive sense and a minor control over the flow of heat. They can cut ice perfectly because they know where it's thinnest. They can drae heat directly out of a fire and into themselves or pass it onto another. Things like that.

I’m going with Windigoes. As it became too dangerous to remain in the air with heavy winds and large predators, the pegasi were forced into a ground based lifestyle and temporarily locked down and unable to retreat south. Any calories spent maintaining wings were calories not devoted to producing a heavy coat and increased metabolism, so ponies with smaller and smaller wings were better and better adapted to the climate. Eventually wings became vestigial, then were selected away entirely.

Flying costs a lot of energy and magic for non avians. Life is harsh in the frozen north, so pointlessly spending energy to fly isn't optimal for survival. Plus having extra limbs, especial frail ones like wings, just makes you more succeptible to frostbite and gangrene.

The Shuskaflower is a species of Tundra flora found in the far north. It can’t live on the plains, but if sheltered enough in small woods or by convenient geology it can grow well up north of the permafrost line. The flower itself makes a nice tea, but it grows from a bulb that is the real catch. Shuskaflower root is dried, roasted and ground into a powder about the consistency of what you might get from store bought garlic or onion powder and is added to milk or hot water at about 1 tablespoon per cup. Although it won’t dissolve in mild or water readily, it will if a small dose of extract of Merriseed is added (about 1/4 tsp per gallon). Although not technically “cocoa” it is generally regarded as superior to the tropical bean in flavor, sharpness, and mouthfeel, and has the additional benefit of natural sweetness, so it does not need to be sugared during preparation. It also has excellent digestive properties and is a staple housewives remedy for small ailments.

Okay so I'm trying to come up with Snowpone Tea Blends and here's what I've got so far:
Pine Ponder: Wanted to use pine needle tea as a base, but Adagio doesn't do that. So I'm going to instead try and fake it using a floral tea with forest berries and maybe something 'nutty' or 'woody' to imply pinecones.
Cirrus Wisp: So that one green describes her tea being a very unique flavour, and I was then thinking some kind of herbal shaman remedy: So Peppermint and lavender, maybe will add a touch of something to it.
Baba Hooves: So for this I'm imagining the old mare sitting with her old friend and sipping a warming drink as the winter blizzards roll through the town. Ginger, Cinnamon, Currants. Most likely. Maybe I'll change this to something ginger and citrussy because that reminds me of my nan when I had colds as a child, but I'm trying to stick to things you could logically have in the arctic, or at least easily substitute.
Any suggestions for teas?

When I referenced roots being used in Cirrus' tea, I was thinking of something like turmeric - earthy but quite pungent. Sadly it wouldn't grow in an arctic climate. Wouldn't mix with peppermint and lavender, I think, it'd probably be too strong. Something like anise or licorice? The root of licorice is what's used, after all.

The first thing that comes to mind for Crackling Fire is lapsang souchong as a base. I've only had it a few times but I've found the smokiness to be quite strong. I'm not sure what to add to it, though. I'd say warm spices like ginger or even turmeric but I'm not sure how that'd mix with the smokiness. You could even go for something like allspice or cardamom, as well. It's traditionally dried over a fire burning pine so something to consider.

For Bundle Up, lemon and mint anyway. Good for the throat and congestion, though I'd suggest spearmint as it's milder than peppermint. Green tea as a base, as well.

I do drink tea but I'd probably give most tea drinkers nightmares with how I do it.
Put a teabag in a gallon bottle (3.7Liters or so) and let it sit for a couple hours at room temperature. It's a black tea, supposed to be chai of some description.

Well proper tea should be yes, if I had everything for it I'd make proper tea all the time.

Chai teabag says to let it sit for at least 4-minutes (longer for a stronger flavor.) The black teas I have say 2-minutes. When I do do it heated I do it right at the edge of boiling for 20 or so minutes but I'm also making five-six times more tea from a single bag than the instructions are expecting. It also says to pour the hot water over the bag I've never done that cause I don't have a kettle.

Most tea brands that I've encountered here in america that I've tried taste of wood.

She's a storyteller maybe she tells the snowpones her various stories in exchange for shelter and food. If you think the snowpones speak a variant of old pony, Trixie can probably do this with her magic to make sure the meaning of her words is understood.

No, I'm still not happy with that, I want to make something more pine centered. Chestnuts just won't cut it I don't think. Hazelberry and Cranberry I'm keeping that will have the nutty and berry flavour I want. But I need something to really ievocative of pines.

The idea of being 'ancient' per se is a bit touchy though.

Cirrus feels very ethereal to me. If you want to go the shaman route, lean heavy into the greens. So like Kukicha, hojicha, and something unexpected like peppermint.
My take would be something like 60 honeybush vanilla, 30 chamomile, 10 hojicha for that unique flavor. Maybe accent ginger if you want that in there.

What do you think of this snowfilly's design?
Filly's name is Yelovaya Lapka (which translates as "Little Spruce Branch") because of her spiky mane and tail, her cutiemark is just a dark-green three-ended spruce branch.
Despite of her "thorny" appearance, she's a very soft (by heart and, of course, fur) and kind filly who likes to explore surrounding nature by herself when her parents are at work.
I will try to color her later in Photoshop or just Paint.net, but firstly I want to ask you all: is there something I should change in design and/or lines?

They might have shiny fur compared to normal ponies or just have brighter colors, but when they become crystal they actually do become crystal. They’re even transparent and can be shattered.

Hm, true. The real way to tell Podzol, Evergreen and that other filly that isn't named yet, is colours really.
Podzol is a richer, dark colour with red eyes,
Evergreen is more rusty and lighter, and of course green eyes,
The other one is kinda like a lighter of Podzol with yellow eyes.
