>>7374503>You new here? You'd think, but no. That kind of shit just never ceases to amaze me. It makes my jaw drop every time. I should be used to it — everywhere, not just here — but I'll never get used to it.
I distinctly remember when I was cured of blurting out stupid shit. I was eleven years old. It was at a photography class taught at a local boys' club. The instructor (who wasn't much more than a teenager himself) said, "Can anyone tell me this? If you have an out-of-focus negative, can you bring it back into focus with the enlarger?"
"Yes," I said, without thinking.
"Wrong," he said. "A bad negative is..."
I continued to dig myself a deeper hole. "Yes you can," I countered. "Our Physical Sciences teacher showed us. She put a blurry slide in a slide projector and brought it into focus on the screen. This is the same..."
He was staring at me, completely expressionless. "I don't believe you," he said dismissively, and then he ignored me through the rest of the class. Looking back, he was gentle with me.
I don't think I stopped blushing for a week. I never opened my mouth and stuck my foot in it like that again. I was eleven years old. How old are the users here?
