>>39499219I'm in a similar boat. I went to university, got my Batchelors, this being during the fiscal crisis jobs weren't exactly plentiful and when I finally got one it was working for barely above minimum wage a two to three hour commute from home in a commercial laboratory.
I decide "well this is shit" and save up to go back to university again. Few years later I go do a masters' degree in a field I actually enjoy and there's a ton of demand for everywhere (and the money is very good).
Then there's a political upheaval that throws the sector into chaos and uncertainty so all the permanent jobs disappear while I'm still at university.
Still high demand for contract workers though so I go from contract to contract for a couple years, make some decent money and enjoy the work. Then decide to go on a six month break to fufil a lifelong dream.
Get a bunch of big contracts through at the end of those six months, looking good. But this is March 2020. All contracts cancelled, no jobs, because I was unemployed before it all kicked off no government assistance.
I'm massively, massively overqualified for all the basic jobs that come up and been passed over for someone who isn't going to jump ship as soon as things stabilise.
