Take being bullied, for example. Sometimes, being bullied actually teaches you shit about social order, but many who are actively bullying you aren't doing it with conscientiousness in mind, and the ones who actually give a shit about bullying you constantly end up having awful family lives -- they're just using you as a misdirection punching bag.
You can end up benefiting in some ways for being bullied, but that's from how you internalized and acted on shit. You don't thank the bullies, you fucking cum, because whether you got better or broke down into a neurotic mess didn't (and likely still doesn't) matter to them.
