Editor of the YearbookIs this a (2 weeks late) Pride month newsletter that was supposed to go out before the end of June? Why yes it is! Did I chomp off more than my community director dino fangs could chew—please excuse that mental image—and then freak out because I hadn't sent this, and then wonder if I should send it at all, and then decide to send it, and then repeat this exact thought process 5 times? Yes.
And so, here is a loosey goosey newsletter that was supposed to be formal and is not. I am an informal ankylosaurus, I stand before you vulnerable and with a journal-entry newsletter update. Pretend this is a Pride retrospective please! Or don't! Just know I tried!
But to chat about Pride month in all seriousness: this is going to sound extremely cheesy but it really is an honour to work on Goodbye Volcano High with this team. I don't think I'm off-base in saying that some of us at KO_OP have actually come to clearer understandings of our own queer identities through the process of making this game (this possibly may just be me lol but yes hello I have come to a clearer understanding of my queer identity through this game). Maybe it's being in an environment that is so supportive of our identities, or maybe it's working on something that explores queer themes and the conversations that has often fostered during our meetings, but there's something very illuminating and healing about developing a game that is so openly, beautifully
queer. So we had a nice Pride month, but we also have a nice time in general being a group of people in different parts of the world working on a game about being yourself and finding your chosen family when the world is massively uncertain and scary. Maybe because it is relatable. Anyway! End of cheese

Something we did during Pride month that we think has made a much safer space for the staff and members of our Discord is make our server verification only! What does a verification-only server mean?
