Honestly, our AUtism could be even be more stronger. I get the feeling that most AU stuff we do here are authors sitting on their [IDEA] and not doing much with it except dumping the occasional [IDEA] into the discussion stream now and then. People are afraid to contribute themselves because the authors have a tight lock on their IP, and the fans are picky on what to discuss themselves (too much slice of life, too much lewd, too much shipping). Likewise, the authors are afraid to contribute because, imo, Toby has a tight lock on his storyline and they're all afraid of their "magnum opus" being overridden by future canon. Every single AU I've seen here is mostly on self-appointed life-support until fresh content gets made. It's like the "book I'm going to write" purgatory most of us go through with the stories we have in our heads except made even worse because canon is dependent on someone else's non-existence canon to exist.
I don't mean to sound negative, since creators holding onto their precious [IDEA] is completely understandable, but I think it does contribute to the overall quagmire we're in. A lot of the AU storylines people are brewing right now are possibly stringent on a story that might take a DECADE to finish.
So while it's unlikely to shake the fear of BIG [CANON] COCK from content creator's heads, it *could* be neat to see people going more wild with AUs and AUs of AUs. As much as people get self conscious about "looking like the tumblr" I feel like our little hypotheticals and discussions are always the funnest between waiting on notable content drops. It's why I liked that little Muffet cafe thing ages ago. It was a humble little thing unreliant on needing to wait for Toby to confirm is Muffet is canon or not, to jest a little.
