There's still a person in there going through it.>story timeA few years back, back in senior year, I witnessed one of my quieter and nerdier classmates become increasingly reclusive, depressed, and half-asleep throughout the year. A couple of my pals later unearthed creepy groomer discord memes akin to what you’d see Reiko peddle on /r9k/. At the time, we brushed it off as him just being a weirdo nerd.
During the last term, he officially trooned out, going by a “feminine” moniker and wearing the female uniform. Around the same time, I became more apathetic towards school, despite being blessed with a majority of mostly decent male teachers during my junior and senior years, and winning awards in my sophomore year. I began to coast apathetically.
To this day, I wish I’d done more for Matthew, or at least encouraged my pals to cheer him up or check in on him. Maybe invite him to a dinner or something.
I just hope he hasn’t botched his crotch, and never will.
To all the proto-dilators out there: it’s not too late to accept yourself and turn towards the truth.
