The most important aspect of a groundhog DAY is that it's supposed to be a DAY that's repeated over and over again and im not sure how you'd work a feel good into the day of the school shooting while resolving the story in a satisfying way. I think the concept you're looking at is inherently flawed and would at best be very bitter and a little sweet.
You could have the groundhog day take place at prom but then you dont have the emotional impact or a good reason to groundhog day.
