Basically it introduces the stereotypical werewolf tropes into a known franchise. So for example... Elsa is an Alpha, and she meets a cute girl named Anna who's going into heat. So she works on seducing the cute girl. The strange thing is that the characters are always described as being entirely human. No paws, no tail, no muzzle, no fur. And they never change into a more wolf-like or animal-like form. It's a normal character_X_character fanfic, but they just act like werewolves. It's just the biggest tease in the world if you're a TF fetishist.
And there's tons of these! On AoO there are about 5000 transformation fics (only 1900 of which are explicit). Whereas there are 19000 Mating Cycle fics. I have no idea why, these are tremendously popular.
