>>29493367I got caught up with the show right as Future was ending, so I watched the entire thing at my own pace and never had to wait for hiatuses, and never had my opinions colored by the community in any way.
I love the show and think it's basically one of the best things ever. The show has amazing music which it puts to great use, beautiful background art, probably my favorite character designs ever, and to my tastes it strikes a pretty perfect balance of humor and drama. I find the characters to be more compelling than any other fictional characters I've ever been exposed to. The mysterious world building, the applicability of the fantasy elements, the fantastic voice acting, I could go on praising the show forever.
Everyone already knows all the show's problems and flaws but they just don't bother me. A lot of the stuff people complain about most if stuff that I enjoy. I don't mind that the characters are never on model, I enjoy seeing the characters look different depending on the artist. I don't mind townie episodes, I think they are generally placed well and make the world and characters feel more fleshed out, giving them normal lives outside of the sci-fi fantasy. I don't mind the plot threads that weren't tied up perfectly, sure it would be nice if they were, but I think the characterization is good enough that you can come to your own conclusions about whatever details you wish were covered more. I don't mind that the show is always tied to Steven's perspective, it was what the show wanted to do from the start and seeing Steven grow is what ties everything else together.
Sometimes reading how much shit other fans of the show like to fling makes me very confused. I think that maybe watching it at my own pace is a reason why I see it in so much of a brighter light than longtime fans. If I had to wait around for all those hiatuses with nothing to do but shittalk the show then I could see it wearing down my actual opinion on things after a while.
