I actually wouldn't even draw a line. Anons over at /doe/ can do whatever they want with Momdyne and ship to their hearts' content. My only dilemma is that they've taken quite a liking to the alt-verse and it feels like they've made it their thing, to the point that when I tried dipping my toes in Momdyne again I was meeting comments like "Well, actually, Frigid Noelle did *this* in the Dark World" or "Over at our thread, we've *decided* that..." or just sort of trying to guide the plotline to better position Noelle around Kris.
Again, I don't strictly care too much, I only initially brought up the topic because of the discussion around fanon running away with what is or isn't canon, and to *me* I find that it can be hard to separate the red beans from the blue beans and it just makes me steer clear from the 'verse.
Though my biggest issue with Momdyne (as a Susiefag) is that I feel like Spry is just waiting on Toby's canon to do anything with her character. She's only as bubbly as she is because we've slapped on B!Susie for the fun of it, and honestly I wouldn't be surprised if Susie would literally be the SAME otherwise. It's just a personal let down because I like Susie, and since nothing's really being done for it, I have no real interest in Momdyne unless it's just re-focusing back to that fun mother-son relationship.
Like, I don't view B!Susie being adopted by the Dreemurrs as being the greatest verse detail ever, but it was neat. It provided B!Susie with some characters for her background, and perhaps the potential neatness of her no longer being the New Girl and instead just the Weird Girl in town. The Dreemurrs could no longer adopt Kris, so they brought Susie under their care at some point. I understand why Spry is hesitant to explore Susie without Toby's bible in hand, but she's in a disinteresting limbo atm.

Oh, and I wanted to mention, that's why I also brought up the fankids, too, who are basically nothing BUT chaotic fanon with no baseline to bounce back to. It's not strictly a bad thing, though I'm off-and-on with the new Casey. I'm not in-love with Gen 1 Casey, but it does feel like people chopped him up and added his MC-ness traits to the others. Good for chars like Kreth, who I do like to view as a little boy-moments-before-adventure character, but Casey's just a little one note now. Far from a "leading man."

But yeah, despite the chaos I do like the fankids, though. Likely because I can still work with the characters I'm especially favourites of.

Honestly? I actually hate gen1 Casey. He quite literally feels like a generic MC fankid more than anything. I see him like I see boruto, extremely generic compared to his dad. I didn't mind because back during gen1 our standards were somewhat low and that's doubly so for fankids. But I vastly prefer dumb loveable teddy bear Casey opposed to "Main Character" Casey now that we got him. Though I do agree that he needs some more depth. But I thought MC Casey was even worse in this regard. If Teddy bear Casey is a kiddie pool, then gen1 Casey is a puddle.
Reverting Casey back to his gen1 design would be a major step back in my opinion, it's better just to try and give new Casey some more depth.
Maybe explore his selfish side a bit.

I liked Gen 1 Casey because it was easier to do stuff with him, and he was basically the only "canon" fankid at the time, too, so he served his role well. So I won't undignify him by comparing him to Gen 2's ideas since we were working on fumes even for our main characters back then. So that's why I don't mind BIG Casey now, but he's already Flanderised. He's fun, but there's no direction for him barring us spending lots of time tackling him.

Frankly, and I'm going to maybe rustle the hive here, but Kreth is in the role Gen 1 Casey used to be. He IS generic. Yeah, yeah, we can mention fun traits like his strange ability to speak German and all that, but he's the Malcomo in the Medio archetype. He's the off and on strange, sometimes awkward main character of the new generation. We just accept it, again, because it's fun, and there's nothing strictly wrong with that. It lets him be the focus of fun situations like that DS and other handhelds "incident."
We could just as easily make Coldsteel the Hedgehog for Gen 3 and comment how milquetoast and slice of vanilla Kreth is now.

I don't really see Krethle as a generic character imo. A bit undeveloped in the character department but that applies to all the children. He's a bit uncaring, he's lazy, choosing to play on his DS even in the most energetic of situations. There's alot more I can grab from Krethle than I can from Classic Casey. Classic Casey IS easier to write for, but that's BECAUSE he's utterly generic and you can write him in any way and nobody cares. I can't even remember anything that makes him stand out as a character. I will admit that he did fit his role as a prototype main character, but I feel like he's just that, a prototype. While I feel like Krethle actually has some stuff to his character, like the DS, and the lack of enthusiasm for the chaos around him.

I feel like the foundation for characters are fine, it's just that they need some more exploring and defining.

not gonna lie casey and pines are definitely one of those gen1 things that i'm nostalgic for and remember fondly, but i vastly prefer and am glad for what we got now maybe we could tweak current casey around a bit more and give him some more depth but i think we've definitely taken some steps foward from between gen1 to now, not everything we used to do back then was a good concept looking back on it (like shipping noelle and asriel)

definitely. id have to go back on the /sus/ archives to really refresh myself on pines's personality (it's been a while) but i think shed make a great sort of 'outsider character' to the kids' shenanigans. she could also be a source of some much needed "maturity" to current casey

I just feel like it's coming down to tastes, that's why I'm quick to mention that there's not much going for Krethle as well ("He plays the DS unlike CASEY!" etc.). The same lack of development could be said for Casey back then, too. DOUBLY SO for new Casey.

One thing I liked about Old Casey is that he already was growing up into being the next delegated "golden child" of the town, especially since he's the eldest and most responsible of his siblings, often overburdenedly so as the big brother. There's definitely a "I never asked for this" aspect that endeared me to him. In many ways he's just trying his best to keep his head clear from his wacky parents' antics. I think with time, especially more focus in Gen 2 we could have easily add more onto this.

I wouldn't bring back Pines unless we fixed the Casey "issue." I think we really need to roll back on the stupid big retard side to him. It honestly wouldn't even be hard to combine aspects of new and old Casey so he felt like a real character.

I don't know anon, I really don't think Krethle and Casey have that much in common. Casey's fondness for the DS is alot more different to it being Krethle's prized posession. I really don't think Casey is as big of a problem as you chalk it up to be, I feel like the main issue is that there just isn't that much new Casey stuff so he feels one note. I do think he could use some tweaking but I don't think the right decision is full on bringing back old Casey and pines stuff. I feel like old Casey is just outdated.

I think calling him a "big retard" is a bit harsh. He's more simple minded yes, but he's not retarded. Retarded Casey was mostly a thing when he was just created. (And Honestly I still found it more charming than gen1 Casey but that's simply my opinion). Big teddy bear Casey is completely fine. Maybe take a page out of Alphonses book. But I think the only thing new Casey lacks is depth and content fleshing him out. But considering how you think we should change Casey to be more like gen1 Casey, and how I think we should change Casey to be LESS like gen1 Casey. I don't think we'll really get anywhere.

There are absolutely aspects from Gen 1 we can use as a reference to take Casey further that isn't just him being a walking trash compactor. It comes across as simply trying to spite the ghosts of anons past instead of working to improve what we currently have. You even flirted the idea of bringing Pines back. That's what I'm talking about. There are aspects from Gen 1 that we can use if we're not going to callously throw out the baby with the bathwater when it comes to old /sus/.

I'd like if Casey was someone who consciously chose to be happy despite life's best efforts, to contrast Kris who to an extent wallows in it, at least where we are so far in the main story. Maybe that makes people perceive him as not being too bright, and maybe they'd be right, but he's a good kid that just wants the best for everyone. He's almost blindly optimistic, and can be taken advantage of because of that, and I think that'd make for good chemistry with his siblings. He's the "big brother" but he also needs someoen to look out for him, like Krethle pulling him aside and telling him that the girl who keeps flirting with him has ulterior motives, etc. He's basically the product of someone raised by a Kris and Susie who have bettered themselves by this point, but still "inherits" some of their issues, like perhaps feeling like an outcast for being a hybrid, but he just pushes it down and smiles. It makes him endearing, but when things go south he sometimes has a "Everything is fine" attitude even when everything's on fire around him.

At least, this is where I'd guide Casey's character towards. He's still the big protective and jubilant bear, but his "feels over reals" can sometimes bit him in the butt. Don't tell him that his favourite bodybuilders that he looks up to are all roiders and that Santa isn't real (Noelle would NEVER lie to him).

I disagree. I think Casey was only so well beloved was because we lacked any better alternative. And current Casey I believe is much more of an improvement than the "Generic teenager mc" Casey from before as a character. The only difference between the two is content and depth.

I think we can use some stuff from gen1, and I'm not trying to spite any of the ghosts of past anons by saying I don't like old Casey. I simply just stated that we should seperate new casey from old casey in terms of base character. I just want his base character to maintain some actual uniqueness compared to gen1 Casey seeming like your everyday highschooler protag. Now I don't mind if we take some of the good stuff from gen1 for gen2 Casey if it doesn't reduce the character we already have.
There are alot of things I don't like about gen1, but I'm not saying they never had some good stuff.

Y'know this is actually quite a good take. Maybe in contrast Krethle is a character who is constantly trying to "Fix" things by himself. Take burdens that should be shared onto himself and ending up being completely overwhelmed.
Maybe for example a group project that he and Casey flubs up ends with them failing and Krethle tries to make a deal to take the failing grade in exchange for bumping Casey's grade up, and now he has to cram extra credit assignments just to not fail. Ending with Casey finding out and actually being hurt that he wasn't ever consulted and instead of the both of them negotiating a solution. His brother caused himself unneeded suffering.

Yeah, I think it gives Krethle and Casey a lot of brother-brother chemistry. Both of them want to avoid bad situations in their own way, but need to step out of their comfort zone for each other. Casey wants to be the big brother out of all the siblings, but sometimes it's really Krethle being forced to pick up the pieces behind the scenes. Though for all his faults, Casey will always have your back.
It's also a possible fun dynamic if Pines is brought back, too. I can see Krethle being suspicious of a new girl influencing his brother, and all sorts of shenanigans can expand from there.

I can definitely back Krethle making things worse for himself but only because he tries to slack off or avoid most things. He strikes me as the type of character that will do everything in his power to avoid the call to action, and spends more effort in doing so than it would take if he just went with it in the first place. Yea they flunked the project and he went to beg the teacher, but that's because he never bothered to do his part in the first place.

I like to think that him being lazy is a good cause to a bunch of issues he ends up fixing, but even if it's not something he caused, he might try and pick up the pieces anyways.
If you asked Casey or Krethle why they were helping Basher clean graffiti off of the school sidewalk. Casey would say "Because we're bros! Brothers help other brothers out!". Krethle on the other hand would say "It's because a brother's job is to pick up after their siblings."
Even though Krethle constantly talks about "Just wanting to go home." he finds himself in the thick of it moreso than his siblings.

That's nice. I live for this sort of shit. I'm now imagining Krethle sick with the flu realizing how dear he is to the nerd when she leaves the spot she's been camping in all night outside Vidyaspot to instead play games with him in his room. I think Casey is strongfat most of the time, I don't think he'd ever have a "body builder" type deal because all that is a cosmetic thing that you have to actively strive to have, it's something he wouldn't care about, he's just a big strong boy and I think fridge's design reflects perfectly off of that.

I think fankid shipping is fine in the case of characters like Pines or doe's Pepper as they were created for the purpose of adding more character interaction with Casey/Basher, romance is apart of character interactions just as much as friendships. Alot of teenagers have girl/boyfriends, romantic experiences is just a part of being a teenager. I personally think Pines (and Pepper) add to the concept as it's not just an entirely isolated thing. Even though there are some upsides to that.

I'm being facetious. Though in all honesty? Anything outside baseline /sus/ content is a grey zone for me. At least when it comes to the community fanon like Veth. Maybe just make him a bit wider in the right places? It's tempting to go full Dorito-shape to make a male look big, but I dunno... I feel like there must be a sweet spot where guys look pleasingly big without going full bara territory.
I like Fridge's design, even drew it once, but I'm afraid to go full fridge since I believe that locks his 'personality' just a bit too in-place. Sort of keeps him stuck in that passive, gentle giant bubble. At least to me.

Fankids are always a bit tricky to me, it's something that inevitable get even further from the characters we like and I get some peoples can be worried to have it spiral down. However don't feel uncomfortable sharing your art, you've made a lot of drawings and none of them had received any genuine backlash. A few criticism of course but don't feel like you're being hated on, even Jelly had a few passive-aggressive comments about how his art was just coombait. The threadshitters always get angry towards someone making content for a thread they hate.

It's genuinely unfortunate that you feel that way, but I can honestly get why people are super defensive of certain things. I'm not condoning nor condemning but I can completely understand why people feel like there should be a hands off of the fankids when it comes to lewds. Making the fankids bang/sexualizing them is a bit wierd. But like you said, you just wanted to express Pines being a freak. I think the problem is that no offense to you, but your art is lewd or has lewd undertones more often than not, so putting Casey in a situation like that might come across to people as "lewding him". Plus there's that whole "art influencing the thread" thing, but I don't really have any real opinion on that because minor greenmakers like me don't have as much of a influence on the thread as the big boys.

Just my two thoughts.

I would say that I have no real influence over the thread. The people who are around more and spend more of a conscious effort to curate their ideas and shut down other ones are more likely to maintain the status quo more than anything I've ever made. Not that I'm resentful about that, but it does make drawing uncomfy when my presence is seen to be more serious than it is. I don't even remember what it was, but I made a joke about a Veth "fact" a few weeks ago that was instantly shut down, so trust me, I'm only capable of making Muffet wear a beanie, hohoho.

Honestly it's a complicated issue.
I can again, understand both sides of the battle.
On one hand, There's nothing necessarily wrong with trying to maintain the status quo, Not all changes or additions are good. I think Veth has enough character quirks and traits that adding more "facts" becomes excessive and starts to drag down the character more than it adds. Even if it's a joke, a joking suggestion is still a suggestion. On the other, brainstorming and variety is essential for the thread to stay alive, things will get stale eventually and there needs to be fresh ideas to get people interested in.

I really don't mean anything by this, but this is just flat out wrong. All OC has an influence over the thread. Some OC has more influence than others but still, influence is influence. Take Fridge for example. His hellbunker stuff is basically the backbone for all of doe's Dess-arc stuff, and in the case of Veth, the anon who made the orignal foot jewlery green for Veth even caused Jelly who created her, to adopt the stirrups design for Veth. There's a reason why people aren't keen on getting another foot fetish fic for Veth, despite the views on them being overall wide appraisal.

As the guy who wrote that fic, I agree with this 100%
I'm glad people still like it, but I can read the room and know when too much is too much: something I should have done this past Sunday, in retrospect, or at least I should have pumped out another Veth story to help dilute the concentration of foot stuff going on. Much as I like feet, I don't want to alienate people by oversaturating the thread with it.

Veth as a character only exists because someone wanted to change it up from the status quo of the Vessel being our faceless self-insert that was our own OC character avatar without a personality of their own so we could exist in-universe independently of Kris, which was the norm and subject of numerous fics and pieces of art prior to Veth's creation.

Veth stuck around as an idea and shifted the paradigm because of that appeal. Not to mention, there was a central driving force behinds it, that being the story that Jelly made for her, and while that story enjoys a lot of plasticity, it's still a tangible entity, and the tangible elements are the backbone of her appeal as a character. Stripping that away and crying about "thread policing" isn't looking at the picture holistically, and if I can be brutally honest, it just sounds like you took someone's counter-suggestion too personally, or got offended when someone told you that something you said wouldn't fit with those tangible elements.

I don't know about that anon. I make plenty of greens both long and short and I don't think a mindset of "All content is good and if you have a problem then leave." is the way to go. Change is good, but not all change is good. There are defintiely some things that aren't the best direction for things to go in. It's not like people are actively condemning others for their suggestions, it's just criticism, though I know sometimes that some anons can be a bit pushy with their criticism.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with fair critique and if you disagree with that then you should probably find another website.

I'm speaking mostly just for me. The broad anxiety that a content creator would cement distasteful content into the community's gestalt tends to bleed into little ol' me as well, even though I'm probably the most eclectic and least focused artist here to make an OC like Jelly or create a series of cool stuff like the Hellbunker. I think my "dilemma" is simply because I'm boxed-in by sometimes reasonable demands to stay on-course with certain fanon, but having no room to be too personally creative. I'm sort of this gremlin that makes fanart of other fanart. Ultimately I don't mind that much, since I don't have great ambitions to do anything with Veth or other characters, but the eyes I sometimes feel on me can be a little ruff. Arf arf.
Though I suppose I do feel for the green writers that want to write stuff about Veth. I'd imagine it'd be hard to write a story with her that satisfies how people imagine her in their own heads.

I have been trying to branch out to other communities, though. Hmofa mostly. Just to practice and stretch my limbs and make relatively carefree content. Frankly, I could do with drawing more Susie more often, too.

Yeah, beeg draogn girl on soft human boy is super hot, let's not kid ourselves. I'm not trying to put us on a pedestal over them. That's an idea we and hmofa would very much have in common. The difference, I guess, is that we also like the relationship that they share together: their dumbass hijinks, the commonality they share as outcasts, the possibility of love coming from their understanding of each other and the experiences they've shared. I don't imagine the guys at hmofa would be particularly against those ideas per se, but I don't think they'd really spare the time for it, as there's plenty of other pairings from plenty of other media they're drawing or writing or discussing, and Krusie probably is just another coin in the collection, so to speak. They don't really have any incentive to dig into it like we do.

That, I think, is the reason I guess we can come off as persnickety, though we probably don't mean to. We just care a lot about these goobers since our focus is, well, more focused.

I feel like you have every right to complain about these things as a content creator if you feel like it's a problem. I know the topic of "adding too much to Veth." has been a thing brought up a couple of times recently.

What I usually do for my greens and stuff is I don't go far outside Jelly's vision for Veth, I try to respect him and how he makes Veth in my writing. The only exception is that I kinda go off the deep end with Kreth, but that's my one and only guilty pleasure with her. Otherwise I don't feel like Veth singing country songs is too out of character for Veth when she's known for being a wierd dork. But if Jelly came back one day and said that she hated country, I'd immediately strike down that stuff as "OOC" or "Non-canon".
I play around Jelly's rules and nobody elses. Anything that would change or majorly influence Veth's character/story is out, (if it's something that relates to situation like V!Kris, or inheritance then I just consider it an AU.).

I hope you don't feel offended if I use the sentient hair thing as an example, but if I myself came up with that in one of my brainstorming sessions then I probably would have considered that to be a big enough change to change Veth's design away from "anti-gravity" to "sentient hair". But you were joking in the end, so it doesn't really matter.

I think the Veth hair thing might have been people putting too much weight into your art, but I think the whole "Casey bulge" fiasco was more of a case of people just being uncomfortable with the idea of the fankids being sexualized/going too far as opposed to it opposing some fanon that people had.

I guess I'll just leave you with this.
Whenever you go outside of the base writing or design for a character, you're always going to have someone telling you how a certain aspect doesn't fit the base character. If you're a serious/focal creator like me, it's good criticism and it's better to keep it in mind for wanting to accurately portray a character.
But considering how you're a non-focal, non-serious artist. I guess you should worry too much, as long as you're respecting the character and not trying to turn them into some bimbo porn model, I don't think anyone is going to get upset if you tell them that Veth's hair pointing a down arrow and veth looks down to realize there is no ground under her and she falls looney toon style, isn't meant to be taken as a serious character suggestion trait.

I have personal gripes with the off-and-on, inconsistent pearl clutching when it comes to these threads and lewd content no matter how minor, but it's not a topic I care to argue about. I personally have no objection to lewds, or lewd humour, but I know others do, so salut.
That being said, I'd still say it's all part of the same thread policing/content curating side of the community, which is why it got brought up. Not to mention the whole debate over whether it's okay or not okay to ship fankids, and the previous debate about Casey's personality as a whole that probably has people extra delicate at the moment. Ultimately it does come down to the thread's attachment and defensiveness towards its culture and characters.

I'm not really sure what I'm suggesting by this, other than the thread having complex feelings on certain matters.

Oh certainly. Pic related.
The difference between the fankids and Veth however, is the fact that they'll always be "the kids." The characters we're shipping are in their late teens, so I don't think age concern virtue signaling is the issue here. It's just that no matter what context they're in, the fankids will always bee seen as "the kids."
There's also the "fanfic of a fanfic" dilemma. Making lewd content of them or shipping fics would feel too far removed from the source material that we know and love and made fanfics for in the first place.

We're a bit of a silly thread, we love shipping Kris and Susie and we love talking about an OC that will definitely not happen no matter how much we love Veth. While I do enjoy Kreth (which is shipping our OC with a canon character) and I also don't mind Krethle (a fankid that can only exist throught an OC x Canon type of ship) it does feel like taking things a bit too far when we start shipping these OCs with yet an other bunch of OCs.

I think that line is made more tangible (though not completely) by a litmus of "Is the character I love still visible here?" Granted, that's not totally concrete, but I think we can safely say there a point where one can recognize it has been crossed. Pic related is a more extreme example, but you get what I'm saying.
