Based on the OP image, I'd like to discuss the UTO setting, as well as the other Military Macro Sci-fi stuff that pops up intermittenly.
In it's defense, it focuses on what it wants, interactions and hugs, and doesn't really worry about the rest. This is perfectly fine. People to attached to [Realism] are often just annoying, but I'm going to do it anyways
That said, I do have some complaints about it and some others that I've read.
1. Earth is non-actor
I get why most authors just have the !U.N. take over, but it sometimes feels like there's no government in charge of making sure the people who go into SPESS are qualified. Some MCs are just really bad and I wonder what even drove them to leave the planet. Mass Effect does this as well, who authorized some of the dummies to leave the planet?
2. Excessive focus on weapons
Both the authors, and the people complaining online, tend to focus way too much on detailing the weapons. I understand military tech is cool, but I've already got /k/ and Twitter if I want to see combat. Use it for story stuff.
3. Culture
I don't mean to make the giant fluffy space alien people complete xenos, that's just a meme, but at least give them a history and some weird things to do. I don't need an encyclopedia dropped on me, but occasionally getting called a pup and the like is fine.
4. Environments
I honestly find it easier to believe that the Humans in those settings are actually 6 inches tall, since the way some buildings are described, they'd house an entire Human city, on multiple levels.
There was probably more but I can't remember
