Cars 2 is a huge guilty pleasure of mine. It is easily the worst Cars film, but it is also easily my favorite. Mater is annoying, & the moral it attempted to teach was terrible. The spies are total idiots and it makes no sense why they would think Mater is a spy. Professor Z’s plan (and the plot in general) was very stupid, and the way Mater found out made no sense. The movie half-asses a racing subplot only to drop it.
So why do I like it? Because it’s just plain fun. It is a spy thriller with a bunch of cool action with cars. It fully succeeds in being this. The action is awesome and very well animated, and the soundtrack is awesome. The movie is exciting and well paced. I love all the creative spy gadgets the cars use, it utilizes the characters being cars way better than the other two films did. And the context of the movie is hilarious. Before Cars 2, Pixar was very serious about the quality of their films and was completely creatively authentic. Then Cars 2 happened where the movie was blatantly just a vehicle to sell toys. That is all it was, and it fully embraced it. And on top of that it was about the idiot comic relief for no reason, and was a sequel that didn’t even pretend to justify itself. Seeing such an amazing studio unapologetically degrade itself to Minions tier content in one movie was hillarious.
I strongly disagree with the common consensus that Cars 2 is the worst Pixar movie. In spite of my love for it, I am willing to concede it objectively being the 2nd worst Pixar movie (although it is like my 10th favorite). But it is NOT worse than the fucking Good Dinosaur. That movie is a boring piece of shit, with basically no story, shit character designs, and is complete tonal whiplash. Cars 2 knows what it wants to be, meets its goal, and can be greatly enjoyed by both kids and people like me who turn their brains off to enjoy le cool spy car movie. Good Dinosaur is aimless, failed in everything it tried to do, and has no audience it appeals to.
>Warner Bros announces a F2P Smash clone with their own IPs >each character has their own voice actors >character interaction confirmed, everyone has something to say to one another >even alternate skins contains new lines or completely different voice actors >a lot of fanservice towards their respective franchises >has a very well explained list of moves >has a mature filter to turn on if you want to hear some characters swearing >according to one of the devs in a Q&A, secondary characters from other shows and second party characters can join the roster >the reception from the alpha test has been positive so far And this is a F2P game. Not even Nickelodeon could give this amount of effort with ASB.
