I mean beside the fact that bojack uses all the animal shit for meaning which I guess the famguy writers overlooked. Bojack is a horse, he's literally stubborn, has a 'long face' ie always looks miserable and generally horses that fail to perform get shot so he's literally a symbol of someone who shouldn't still be around after his glory days.
I know that's a bit much to expect a cutaway writer to have thought of but surely anyone that's actually watched a few episodes of bojangles would get all that. The animals and their attributes have meaning to the show.
