I once won my high schools poetry contest by describing the slug monster from one of the books as war. Shit was pretty trash now that I think about it but I was really proud of myself at the time.

Always really enjoyed the Glus as a concept. The patient killer that COULD fuck you up whenever but knows it can just wait you out. It legit terrified the shit out of my as a child.

Other favorites were the rat snake and the poison toad. Both of which had great moments that showed how they had already won before the heroes got there.

This series I think makes for a great background so long as you ignore the whole "chosen one to fight the dark lord" shit. I honestly remember being a child and thinking the fact that he was secretly the prince of the land was full of shit. I think it would work better as a "warring kingdoms" style where each city is it's own little micro state.

the monsters are just great concepts in general.
Hell its great as the MC dont really use magic much, they mostly rely on items they pick up or the small quirks the gems had.

You're right, I think that the monsters were probably the best parts of the novels as a whole. I can think of at least 5 of them which were unique as fuck and I have never seen since then in any form of fiction.

As someone that owns (or at least previously owned) all of the books of the first series, as well as a spinoff book that talks about the entire region that the first series takes place in, I do like how rich the lore can get. Would definitely try and homebrew some Deltora content into D&D if I were good at it.

These books were the shit, only read the first series but I've still got it in hardback somewhere. I recall the anime being godawful. The plot was cliche as hell, but you had some great monsters, seems like the type of thing that would've made a great campaign since that's practically what the story was.

I loved those books growing up, owned the first two series but don't think I ever got Dragons of Deltora. I barely remember any specifics anymore, but I do remember there were loads of shit that would be neat to use in a campaign. It'd be pretty rad to go back and reread for ideas.
