Anyone else kind of noticed that mass kitbashing seems to be the reserve of fewer people these days?
Like, back when it was more straightforward and the kits were cheaper, even your mum would have made 13th Company using the CSM and SW boxes and her bitz box.
Now, it's mostly either actual GW staff with social media, or e-celeb types who basically might as well work for the Warhammer Community site anyway, like Vince Vinturella or Mengels Miniatures.
From what I see from laypeople like me, both in-person and online, there's often nothing unique on the table. Maybe a couple of headswaps or putting Marine pauldrons and backpack on a Stormcast; you can identify exactly which Primaris Lieutenant they started from or whatever. I think it's because each kit these days is cut up on the sprues differently and plastic characters are posed so dynamically.
Not to mention the lack of "bitz" these days. Like 5-10 years ago, GW was actually really good for this, look at the newer SM Tacticals and Devastators and how many options they came with compared to the 90s plastics. Now unless kits are dual-use you don't really end up with a handful of different weapons and armour parts to keep for later, and if you do they might be awkwardly attached to half and arm or torso.
