>>40402420When it was written it was thought to be the finale. WE saved the show from cancellation. Remember that.
>>40402385For a serious answer, while design wise its not that much of an issue, it radically changed Twilight character. Before that, twilight was the biggest self insert for the board. She was the shy nerd arriving in a hick town and making friends, she was humble and while smart, she was still "learning". (Not helped that it ends with eher FLYING at the camera as if she already mastered flying.) . After that, her role changed dramatically, she became the authority, the lesson giver. She replaced Applejack at her own role, making AJ even more irrelevant. She's the one that for example at the fair people go to to solve problem (and she has to say OUT OF MY WINGS LOLE) as well as shit like the awful cattle comic arc where her power is badly handled.
The TRUE reason that Glimmer had to joint he cast a few season later was to literally have her replace her role of old twilight as the newcomer. That's it. Thats why she's the one being told the stories about hearth warming eves, she's the new one, no longer twilight.
A lot of people view this as the end of the "comfy" era, and I sortof agree, although i'll say, this was far more cemented with the over usage of manehattan and technology, and especially of THAT. FUCKING. CASTLE.
You can't blame the writer though. Hasbro mandate all of these changes, and Larson was mandated to write this in a single episode (he wanted 2), and expecting it to be the grand finale of the show.
