Every one of us relies on the testimony of others in some way or another in our daily lives. We don't need to observe everything personally. Testimony is also responsible for much of what we know about the world.
As far as people go, this is not any Tom, Dick or Harry making the claim but his best friend who has known him for a long time. That gives some legitimity to the statements in and of itself. Surely you can admit that.
If you question Kouji Mori's claim it means you also question his character and integrity. Now, nothing wrong with assessing the trustworthiness of a person. It is why I asked you what makes you think he is untrustworthy? Is there anything in particular that irks you? Or is it just a hunch? Or is the reason completely different?

2. He is an expert mangaka himself
I don't see why it would be out of the ordinary they'd talk about the field or their projects with each other. In fact they co-authored a manga in high school, though it never got released.
