>>93162761>Mate people literally sublet JUST to put stuff on airbnb, it's not just holiday homes, the people of lisbon are actively being displaced because it's more profitable to rent to tourists than long-term localsI get that, but that's not necessarily a question of a reduction of housing supply, just a question of upping the use for them. It doesn't reduce supply, it increases demand for the supply.

>buying council houses doesn't reduce the supply of council housesIf Person A and his family are living in a rented council house, and Person B and his family are waiting for a council house, whether A pays to rent the house or pays to own the house doesn't make any difference to the availability of the house to B. The only way to increase the amount of housing space is to build more houses. I don't see how taking down one of the few routes for unpropertied people to get capital helps the working class.
>I didn't say rent caps in isolation, I said rent caps in conjunction with building more housesEven with more houses, how would rent caps do any more to increase the available houses than if they were declared without any new building?
