>>97035213Its impressiveness is also due to the fact that since its "discovery" in 1911 many people, including Peru's government, believed Machu Pichu to be the legendary Vilcabamba aka the last Inca city, so big deforestation and restoration projects were done at the site, rare thing in Peruvian ruins btw, even then about 40% is still unrestored, lower terraces are covered by thick jungle, for instance. It amuses me how much interest Machu Picchu was given in the 20th century while the actual Vilcabamba ruins have been neglected for the longest time, the first major archeological research at Vilcabamba is scheduled for 2019.
>ChincheroBeautiful and calm town, they still preserve many traditions, famous for its textiles, and it has amazing views too, I still remember at the sunset the fields were cloudly and covered by puddles, it looked like a painting, very gorgeous. I stayed for two days there on my Cusco trip.
