How have the meanings of history, place and landscape been contested in Israel-Palestine?

I'm guessing I need to hit points on religious conflict and history, how these manifest as being part of a homeland, issues of the geography and the territory of the place, the wall, all that basic stuff. Just wondering if /int/ had any other opinions on the whole shit storm that is this particular area of the middle east.
