>>185746776This isn't really true btw. Passé composé and passé simple are both perfective tenses, hence they denote completed actions, but the former can also serve as a present perfect like in English.

>Il tua la bête du Gévaudan.He killed the beast of the Gévaudan.
In that sense, the passé composé works almost exactly like the Latin perfect tense, doubling as preterite and present perfect, while the passé simple doesn't. Hope this is clear—not that anyone will ever read this ghost post.
