>>189218928well anyway, the blogposting must go on
saw parents last weekend and mom again pressured me on the long hair. Now she's resorting to such arguments as: "everyone (her chinese boomer/genx friends) is telling me to tell you to cut it", "(chinese) girls won't like it", "you don't need to stand out like this", "long hair is for vain and shallow people (literally using a misogynistic Chinese idiom 头发长,见识短, meaning long hair (in women) implies a lack of experience and simplemindedness)".
I try to argue back (mostly by appealing to bodily autonomy) of course but she then persists and turns the conversation into a gay accusation. She brings up an example of a person that she sees at work who wears skirts and makeup and goes out with an old man. Then she asked me "Can you promise me you won't be like that? You won't be gay?".
I deflect it by bringing up some bullshit about how WMAF is prevalent in Canada and it's difficult for me (/int/ moment) and she actually seems to buy it. The conversation then turned into an argument about natalism and how "le west has le ruined your mind and you must return to trad Confucian values, as long as you keep your long hair you will be seen as westernized and fruity/gay by other Chinese (which is a bad thing)"
it's all so tiresome
