What is Grancrest? The Grancrest RPG is a Japanese dark high fantasy RPG set in a world besieged by "Chaos," a mysterious and supernatural force that causes the laws of physics to collapse wherever it appears, and which summons forth horrible creatures from other worlds, beasts from myth and fantasy that bring with them death and destruction.
The only thing that can save humanity from the incursions of Chaos are heroes; Lords, bearers of mysterious symbols called Crests, glowing symbols that they use to purge Chaos; Mages, wielders of the rare ability to sense Chaos and bend it to their will, otherwise known as magic; and Artists, a rare few humans who have foolishly chosen to merge their bodies with Chaos and somehow survive the process, warping their bodies and imbuing them with powers far beyond those of any normal human.
Why should you care? I honestly don't know. You probably shouldn't. But the reason I care is because the setting of the game was created by Mizuno Ryo, the author of Record of Lodoss War (among many other things). The game design itself was headed by Yano Shunsaku, who is probably best known in the English-speaking RPG world as the creator of the supers game Double Cross.
The game itself is relatively mechanically rich without being too overwhelming. There are a plethora of character options (mostly combat-related), rules for administering one's own country (because of the role that Lords play in protecting people from Chaos, the primary social organization of the world is a feudal system where Lords rule over those they protect), and a system for large battles where the heroic PCs lead their own armies in the field, all while maintaining a level of abstraction that makes such things simple to run.
The translated PDF has little of the original art (bad scans + my minimal image editing skills), so I'll follow this post up with some of the book's art.
First-time poster here. In fact, first-time visitor, too. And during the past 40 minutes, I've been wondering: How many of you here know anything about Palladium Books? Specifically, have any of you *played* and/or liked the system?
I've never played DnD; a friend of mine got me into Palladium's games over six years ago, and since it's both my only system and one that I've stuck with for so long, I understandably love it.
So, guys(and girls?), what do you all think? I'll be here a while.
Rifts has been knocking it out of the park the last few years. Two HUGE books were just released and another is at the printer to be released in August!
World Book 35: Megaverse in Flames is filled with demons, dimensional evils and all sorts of other awesome stuff to throw at your players.
So tell me again, /tg/, why aren't you playing the best, longest running and most creative RPG?
Hey guys, haven't seen a PDF thread in the past two days of lurking, so I'm gonna try and start one. pardon my newfaggotry.
I don't know the mega links to the big caches of books, so could someone please post them. In the meantime I have plenty of books of all books of D&D, a few rogue trader, and lots of CoC.
>requesting car wars. specifically Car Wars Compendium 2nd Edition.
So /tg/ today I had the pleasure of discovering my communities closet 'that guy.
In my local club there were several guys playing frostgrave, me being one of them. After setting up the table I started galncing to the table next to me, praising peoples paintjobs when suddently I noticed a very odd paint scheme in one of the warbands. He had a short-haired redhead halfling with an axe from spellcrow two avatars of war dark elves painted brown one milky skinned elf and some human females probably from reaper as one of it was a Bones model There was also a single male model from anima tactics , a big guy in armor with a greatsword, all black and red.
It didn't occur to me at once, only after my opponent pointed out the guy looked like Guts from berserk. If only that was the case. Oblivious to all but me the guy was sporting a full cast of kuroinu semen demons and casualy playing with them like its no big deal.
