I'm sure this won't be a popular reply because I've actually tries the Golem Arcana demo and liked it, and hey there Excidium from the 'codex, I'd recognize your commentary anywhere.
So, I played the Golem Arcana demo at GenCon, contrary to my expectations, the stylus worked surprisingly well, no lag, it was perfect, and the tactical elements were engaging. Actual gameplay with the miniatures was fast and a lot more fun than it had any right to be. I immediately wanted to play again. There's no question Golem Arcana is a win, and with the iPhone, iPad / Android phone or tablet handling the rules, my family and friends won't have to spend more than a 5 minute intro learning how the game plays, just like a board game (which they'll find of interest), with the tactical depth of tabletop miniature fantasy wargaming (which I love!). I can't wait to
play Golem Arcana again, and I think the Kickstarter for it looks AWESOME! ^_^
For those who care, they Kickstarter also offers paintable resin figures, which hands-on were beautifully sculpted and pretty high quality, and even the pre-painted figures were better than average for what they are.
The app'll be available for Android devices (phone and tablet), iPhones, iPads, and iTouchs (insert quips here), as well as Windblows.
Also, it comes with 6 golems, not 3.. and the core box set is a lot cheaper than most equivalent wargaming starter kits or quality boardgames these days.
Mostly, they're trying to get funding to further develop the app. I think that's where the bulk of the funds will really go, and some of the concepts for living campaigns, save game for a miniatures game, and more... are amazing for those of us in to miniatures gaming.
They have something good here. Don't shit on it because you got some bad bud or you haven't seen anyone do it correctly before. I wasn't confident in "yet another attempt at an ex illis" either, until I actually played the game demo hands-on, and these guys got it right.
