Goodman games is the current holder of this copyright, and they have recently released an adventure for Free RPG day for a pathfinder based X-Crawl, as an advertisement for an upcoming project. but I can't find anything to suggest a release date.
Summary of Setting: the year is 4699 (2002 AD) and you are a citizen of the north american empire currently Lead by emperor Ronald (Reagan) the first, chosen by Apollo himself to to lead the Empire, and guided by the advice of the autocracy.
X-Crawl is the newest Sport sensation to spread not only across the nation but across the world. Watch while registered members of the adventurer's guild face off against complex dungeons designed by insidious Dungeon Judges. Watch while they Slay Ogres, foil traps, and collect treasure for your entertainment. but remember folks, if they die, they die.
set in a Dystopian present, where america has always been ran by a dictator, magic is controlled by the government, the average commoner can barely rub two copper pieces together, and monster wander the world. Emperor Ronald the first worried about Commoners rising up and demanding that his power be checked by people that he didn't put in the post to begin with plans how to distract the peasants, his answer airs on TV that night.
Fleaman, dropout from the wizards guild and DungeonCrawl (think LARP) fanatic and his friends were exploring some tunnels in philidelphia one night where they discovered a group of ghouls trying to break into a mortuary. using his (illegal) magic he and his friends defeated the ghouls. the event was reported that night. fake adventures killing real monsters and saving the day caught the nations attention, but more importantly Ronald the first's attention.
Ronald was currently contemplating bring back gladiatorial combat as a spectacle to distract the masses, but knew too many people would not want televised shows of people killing people, but monsters on the other hand. who wouldn't pay to watch brave heroes fight and slay monsters.
thus XCrawl was born, a televised spectacle where blood and gory battle is televised to the nation.
(GM note: the setting can be lighthearted as you want, with the dungeon taking on a game show feel to it (Mepehes crawl), or as dark as you want, with homicidal Dungeon Judges(above mentioned beholder), Nobles betting that your party suffers a TPK in room 15, and arranges for the monsters to be given a lethal cocktail of potions to ensure his bet, or they get involved in a out of crawl story line, such as the emperor recruits your characters to go out and negotiate a truce with a dragon and his group of worshipers, oh and the package he gave you to present to the dragon, poison laced wine.
