What would /tg/'s rendition of Bjorn think of the Primaris Space Wolves? What would the Primaris think of him?

So, I like to steal shamelessly from the media I consume and use it to come up with cool scenes for my D&D games. I have an idea, but I'm not sure if its brilliant or retarded.

I just finished playing Tales from the Borderlands, and I'm thinking I could incorporate piloting a giant monster into a mech fight like it's goddamn Voltron into the game at a much later point.

The setup shouldn't be that hard. Giant Monster A is looking to destroy something, underpowered Giant Monster B is trying to defend it. Monster A is piloted by the big bad inside it, while Monster B is able to bring "pilots" on board, and let them use it to amplify their own skills.

I have no doubt they'll love it- breaking up the standard spell and sword combat to fight with Kaiju is the shit they'll want to write greentexts about. The issue is handling everyone's time in the spotlight. I'm thinking the best way to do it is like so:

Each member of the party (assuming a balanced group of four- Melee fighter, melee cleric, ranged rogue, and I-fucking-hope-he's-smart-enough-to-be-ranged mage) has two roles they can alternate between: offense and defense. On offense, they're taking direct control and utilizing their specialties- the Fighter is swinging a biomass greataxe, the Cleric is smiting it with a hardlight flail, the mage is using it as a conduit/material component for kickass spellwork, the rogue is firing biomass spikes or using clones to get flanking damage. However, only one member can be actively controlling this thing at a time, and if it takes enough damage while someone is controlling it, their control burns out and needs time to recharge/regenerate.

On defense, they're using their specialties to avoid dying. Warrior is shifting biomass to block incoming blows, Cleric is regenerating their monster, Mage is maintaining a barrier or counterspelling bullshit Monster A is trying, Rogue is handling the fancy footwork to evade attacks.

So fa/tg/uys: brilliant or retarded?
